Bacon, bacon, bacon!

105-year-old woman says eating bacon every day is her key to long life

Pearl Cantrell’s love of bacon is so strong that the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile made a stop through town last week to wish her a happy birthday, all because she told a local news station her amazing secret.

“I love bacon, I eat it everyday,” she told a reporter for Abilene-based Big Country Homepage in April. “I don’t feel as old as I am, that’s all I can say.”

“I love bacon, I could eat it for every meal — and I do!” she said.

Bacon is not likely responsible for her longevity. Perhaps unchanging daily habits combined with other factors and a lack of stress is responsible but bacon? No.

I eat my hickory-smoked bacon and use the drippings in stews, soups, gravies, and much more.

Often spiced with generous doses of black pepper and cayenne.

Is it the bacon or the spice that keeps me ticking and kicking? I dunno. I just report--you decide.
