The silver lining with Sanford's win

The SC GOP and the GOP as a whole now have a walking and talking hot mess on their hands.

Sanford will be catnip to the media so his face and antics will be news. Along with him will be his fiancé. That should make quite the picture at social gatherings. That will serve as a constant reminder to gawd and everybody about his prior shenanigans.

He is truly a wild card and crazier than a s***house mouse. Sanford will now believe that every idea he has should be made known and acted upon.

The SC Congressional Delegation members are gritting their teeth. They now automatically take a backseat to Markie.

As Sanford proves to be the latest poster child for the GOP, they know he will not be judged nearly as kindly by a national audience. He will suck up their oxygen right at a time when they are tryng to get away from his ilk.

They wanted him. They got him. Here's hoping he puts everybody on blast and is the gift that keeps on giving to his opponents.

They said nothing at all.

There will be very little said about Sanford's affair in the national news I suspect, Republican affairs just aren't considered news.

Sanford's victory will be seen as a political comeback story. His past indiscretions will be considered the past, and anyone who brings it up will be accused of beating a dead horse. We'll also hear a lot of Bill Clinton, Anthony Weiner, and Elliot Spitzer false equivalencies.

... with a pause, and then follow it by "wouldn't do this and this and that that I've done for the people of my district," to illustrate the hypocrisy of the other side and the media that tries to attack him but allows the other side to celebrate "beating a liberal" as more important than anything he's done.

He should also ask questioners whether he's ever walked off the job to enjoy his private life and not do the work he was supposed to do.

by his Appalachain Trail paramour. Newt's story is boring compared to the Sanford Saga.

In addition, as I said, Sanford is off the chain. He will be doing something to stay in the news whether he means to or not.

It would have been explosive if the press had only reported it, given what else was going on in DC at the time.

Think how many newspapers and how much air time that would have sold and yet the press just buried the story, turned down that long green they long for so much.

Hell, Newt could easily have been impeached right besides Clinton, it was the press that made the call.

compares to a disappearing Governor and all that followed, then have at it. He was a philandering cad in comparison to weirdness squared.
IF Newt's whole story had been aired then that's a whole new ball game. It wasn't so why bring that up.

and he won't be judged particularly harshly because that's already happened. Hell, if Vitter can get away with it, so can Sanford.

There is NO WAY that the wives of republicans in D.C. are going to invite Sanford and his fiancee to social gatherings.l They're snobby as it is, but calculate Sanford cheating on his wife, lying about it, and trying to introduce his mistress as his S.O. Not going to happen.

If Sanford and his fiancee are married, they will work their way into the social scene if that's what they want. Maybe not on day one, but over time, unquestionably.

Next time they talk about "family values" they need to explain why it is relatively so "unimportant" to them!

Republican politicians who have committed social and professional misdeeds far greater than Sanford's are still national figures. This sort of shit is just brushed under the rug by our media. Sanford will be treated no differently. He gets a pass, because he's a Republican.
