Former Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday lashed out at President Barack Obamas administration for a failure of leadership over an attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans on Sept. 11 of last year, saying that the Bush administration was always ready on 9/11? at least, the anniversaries.
At an event to celebrate the launch of former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfelds new book about leadership, Cheney told the Daily Mails David Martosko that the Obama administration should have been ready before anything ever happened.
I mean, its North Africa Libya, where theyve already had major problems, he observed. You know that Al-Qaeda is operating there, and you have some of the other Al-Qaeda-affiliated groups there like Ansar al-Sharia and others.

I wish they would have asked him how he feels about having intentionally lied us into the invasion of Iraq. I'm certain that he feels no remorse whatever.

(12,676 posts)Okay, they were ready whenever the anniversary came around. So by their logic, since the counselate attack happened on a 9/11 anniversary, the current administration must not have been, like them "always ready on 9/11" and it was a failure of leadership that an attack happened on the anniversary.
Quite convoluted. But it does "technically" relieve Darth Cheney from admitting the Shrub administration totally ignored the situational awareness and warnings that preceeded the 9/11/2001 attacks.

What about all those embassy attacks during the time Bush/Cheney were in the White House? Did they know about them, and just let them happen, even though they were "always ready" to deal with them?

(50,562 posts)The biggest atrocity no one discusses: the command post exercise in the Pentagon that morning. There is a very strict Department of Defense regulation that says you will not under any circumstance use the name of any real-world entity in an exercise scenario. At the National Training Center the bad guys were Krasnovians, in the Army Intelligence School the enemy country was Romanoff, placenames were fictional, and so on and so forth. The reason should be obvious to all: if the notional event in the exercise happened in real life, you didn't want people to think the real event was exercise traffic. The 9/11 CPX involved a terrorist attack in New York and the bad guys were named Al Qaeda. So...when the real-world bad shit started happening, the players thought they were hearing exercise traffic.

If there would have been an honest investigation instead of how evidence was literally bulldozed over (ahem covered up) there will never be proof positive what really happened.
And on another note we as Americans will never ever see the light of day what Bush and Cheney testimonies, that I might add they both testified together. Bush had to have his handler there.
So, if Dick wants to claim they were "ready for 9-11, let him also address that Bush stayed in a classroom while being read to by school children while terrorist were attacking this country. And the lame-ass excuse that he "didn't want to frighten the children" while his handlers were preparing a make shift room for him to address the country and allowing children as his backdrop really shows that they were being disingenuous at the most about scaring the children!

(36,418 posts)Do the orders still stand, Mr. Cheney?
There was a young man who had come in and said to the vice president, 'The plane is 50 miles out. The plane is 30 miles out.' And when it got down to, 'The plane is 10 miles out,' the young man also said to the vice president, 'Do the orders still stand?' And the vice president turned and whipped his neck around and said, 'Of course the orders still stand. Have you heard anything to the contrary?' Well, at the time I didn't know what all that meant.
Norman Mineta, [5]
Commissioner Lee Hamilton queried if the order was to shoot down the plane, to which Mineta replied that he did not know that specifically.[5] Source: Norman Mineta Wiki

(13,257 posts)This is all about diverting attention from the 9/11 disaster he and Bush** allowed to happen after not heeding multiple advance warnings about an imminent domestic attack using planes. If they can successfully pin Benghazi on Obama for similar reasons in the public's mind, then they can move away from denying they were incompetent to pointing the finger back at the Dem President.
Not that I'm surprised, but how obvious and petty. Too bad for them the only public that's buying this witch hunt is the usual 28-30% deadenders who support the cons no matter what.
