mcdonals reaching out to man who rescued cleveland woman

NEW YORK (AP) — McDonald's says it wants to speak directly to a man widely quoted in accounts of the discovery of three women who were being held captive in a Cleveland home this week.

Charles Ramsey, who lives in the neighborhood where the women were found, noted in an interview with a local TV station that he was eating McDonald's when the scene unfolded Monday. He also made note of his meal in a 911 call. Both the interview and the 911 call went viral online.

Danya Proud, a spokeswoman for McDonald's, said Wednesday that the company is trying to reach out to Ramsey through its local franchisee. She said the company wanted to speak with Ramsey directly given the sensitivity of the situation, rather than communicating with him through the media.

"This is a very tragic situation and we can't lose sight of that," she said.

Proud declined to say whether McDonald's planned to offer him any type of reward.

Maybe they can have guided (paid) tours through "the restaurant where the hero ate". "And here folks is the very plastic stool where the hero sat. Here is the remains of the hamburger he ate." Sorry, I'm just a little sick of all this. It's really getting ugly.

I think that is a pretty classy statement. Better than some would do. If I were them I would try to benefit in some way. I would also do it in a respectful manner that allows Mr. Ramsey to also benefit. Maybe he doesn't want anything to do with them as far as advertising. Who knows. Regardless, Mcd's has already gotten theirs, it would be nice if Mr. Ramsey would get something.

This is a great publicity prop, lets not lose sight of it. And I've had plenty of McDonald's, and would eat there again. But I put McDonald's and Walmart in the same boat. Oh look, there's a McDonald's in the Walmart.

It is the right thing to publicly state that there is something more important here. I understand that behind the scene they are having meetings to determine the best way to stretch the advertising even further. Hard to blame them for that. I know it sounded like it, but in no way am I endorsing them. Just saying the statement could have been worse. My whole point was actually that it is publicity to them. Not much more.

Amanda Berry was kidnapped after her Burger King shift ended.

Ariel Castro brought bags of McDonald's food back for the girls.

Or how Castro would go to McDonald's most everyday and bring back bags of food, all for a bachelor who everyone believed lived alone
