While right-wing uses Ohio case to attack immigrants two Spanish speaking heroes are ignored
Charles Ramsey was not the only hero in the Ohio kidnapping case, two other individuals played key roles in the rescue yet they have been mostly ignored by the media.
Angel Cordero was the first person that hear Amanda Berry screaming and he was the person who actually kicked the door down, Charles Ramsey was there to help but it was Cordero who actually got the door open for Berry to escape. Cordero is one of the lead witnesses in the investigation but his story has received very little media attention outside of a couple of local media outlets. Cordero speaks very little English although he was able to answer a few questions in English for the video interview in the link above, Spanish is his primary language.
Ramsey and Cordero were not the only ones who helped out, Wintel Tejeda also played a key role in the rescue as the neighbor that invited Amanda Berry into his home to use the phone to call 911 and allowed her to stay in a safe spot until police arrived. Link.
Wintel Tejeda is also a Spanish speaking person.
I don't know the immigration status of Cordero or Tejeda, but I do know that they are great Americans and if anyone ever suggested they should be deported from this country I would be screaming "Hell no!".
I have already heard people trying to make this case about immigration because the perpetrators happened to be Hispanic. Never mind the fact that none of the perpetrators were even immigrants, the racists think their race is reason enough to use this case as a call to crack down on immigrants.
We always hear about how terrible immigration is whenever an immigrant commits a crime, but here we have two people who are most likely immigrants that acted as heroes in this case and most people are ignoring them. Let's recognize all the heroes of this case, Cordero and Tejeda deserve to be praised every bit as much as Charles Ramsey does.
