I thought I had reached the depths of my outrage fatigue. But this just makes me want to cry.

Mindboggling. Crazy. Obstinate. Just plain stupid. Those were some of the more polite phrases being tossed around the R&L newsroom upon learning that Iredell County Commissioners David Boone and Renee Griffith had voted against accepting no-strings-attached federal funds to help the poorest homeowners make repairs.

Here’s how it would have worked: Homeowners in Iredell County whose household income is below $25,000 would have been eligible for a portion of a $225,000 HUD grant to fix their homes.

Thanks to Boone and Griffith, that won’t happen. Leaky roofs will keep leaking. Broken steps will stay a safety hazard. Faulty wiring will remain a fire risk.

Thanks to Boone and Griffith, children will come home every day to a house that could have been warmer, safer and healthier — but isn’t.

Hateful fucking teabaggers.

we're not all bible thumping crazies, but most on my road are. I live two counties away from Iredell and travel through the county often. Spent several years as a member of the National Guard unit in Statesville, center point and home of these two Teabagger Republicans. It's a red county and rural, factories closed, tobacco industry all but gone...lots of poverty. But that is NC in general for much of our state. We Democrats try our harderst and sometimes make headway, but recent gerrymandering has all but killed many of our efforts. Still it's my state and I love it. Most of us are good and help others regardless of our political beliefs. So be careful stating that we are all bible thumping Republicans. And yes I am a Patriot, having served 35 years in the Army, and I like banjo music and MerleFest!

Sir:
I was stunned to see your vote on this issue that would have helped the poor and struggling in Iredell County make necessary repairs to their homes.

What a cold, heartless, bitter little man you are,
living fat on the Public Dime but refusing to help your own people.
If you are really a Christian,
then you must believe that one day you WILL be judged
according to how you treated the "least of your brethren".

You still have time before the final reckoning to make amends.
God help you.

Sincerely,

When attempting to communicate with savages,
it is best to use as much of their colloquial language, references, magical incantations, and local folklore as possible.
I started to add, "Here there be monsters" along the edge,
but decided against it.

combined with how many christians there are in this country, should tell us all something about what the vast, overwhelming number of christians really believe, and what sort of religion it actually is.

"Evil" springs to mind immediately. The vast majority of the worshippers, and the religion itself.

Evil.

(What if the christian "satan" was the one who really "divinely" inspired the christian bible? Would the mortal, human writers have ever been able to tell the difference? It's more consistent with the written words, the beliefs, and the behavior of the majority of adherents to the faith, and explains a LOT more than any questions and philosophical writings about the nature of the christian "god"!)

Ben Baby has already explained to "Sixty Minutes" staff that he only digitally creates money for accounts of firms he likes, and that therefore it is not "real money" and we tax payers do not need to worry about it.

So why can't he keep opening up those digitized accounts. For every single American. He could even employ computer programmers to help him -- that way, working a 490 hour week, he could soon enable the per pita of the USA to be an evenly distributed one billion bucks across the board!

My hubby is a small town mayor. A grant our village received a couple of years ago helped low income residents make those repairs to their homes. Shortly after the work had begun an elderly woman came up to us in the local grocery store. "Have you seen my house?" she said. I had never seen this woman before so I was confused to say the least and thought perhaps she had dementia. But then she continued "They finished my house today and those nice men worked so hard. It was so hot but they wouldn't leave until they finished the new attic windows, they were wonderful. Thank you Mayor, this is the best thing that has ever happened to me." She is in her 80's, this sweet lady. And this was the best thing that has ever happened to her. I wanted to cry except the look on her face was pure joy.

Why in the world would anyone turn down a chance to help? This woman also lifted my husband's spirits like you cannot even imagine. When you are a public servant the complaints come frequently but the thanks are few. The chance to make someone's life a little better should never be missed.

the "cash flow" part of the equation.

In your example, the money went directly to the elderly woman. But then she turned to a contractor to have the repairs done. There were multiple benefits - the woman got the necessary repairs to her house, the contractor had a "job", and the workers had gainful employment.

Similarly, Mr. Boone and Ms. Griffith had a golden opportunity to help the economy in their neck of the woods but, in usual fundie fashion, they "stepped in it".
