Here's John McCain's Cable-Destroying Legislation

John McCain is actually working on something people really want to see happen — blowing up the cable industry's expensive bundles of channels.

He's introducing legislation that would make it easier for consumers to pick their channels.

We have the actual bill embedded in this post as well as his remarks to the Senate:

“Mr. President, today I am introducing the Television Consumer Freedom Act of 2013. This legislation has three principal objectives: (1) encourage the wholesale and retail ‘unbundling’ of programming by distributors and programmers; (2) establish consequences if broadcasters choose to ‘downgrade’ their over-the-air service; and (3) eliminate the sports blackout rule for events held in publicly-financed stadiums.

“For over 15 years I have supported giving consumers the ability to buy cable channels individually, also known as ‘a la carte’ – to provide consumers more control over viewing options in their home and, as a result, their monthly cable bill.

I am sick of paying for all these channels that I never watch. Mainly sports, religion and the Spanish channels.

$25 a channel, or you can get them all for $120/month. How many will go for the 1-3 channel option?

No satellite, no cable, no broadcast television.

Just a DVD player and a VCR.

The ad blocker on my computer is aggressive too.

I see very few ads on an average day.
