California father of four died Wednesday shortly after a group of police allegedly beat him with batons as he lay defenseless on the sidewalk. Cops, before confiscating witness cameras, also reportedly unleashed a canine unit on him.

(68,644 posts)Because the cops WILL take your phone and you can't expect to ever see it again. Ever.
More about this story and the phones here:
"They basically told him they were either going to keep him at this house all night until they could find a judge to sign a search warrant or he could just turn over his phone," he said.
The witness gave up his phone two hours before he had to get to work and was told by deputies that he could collect his phone the next day after they had extracted the evidence they needed, Tello said.
However, the witness never got his phone back, Tello said, and was told it could take years before he does because the investigation could take a long time.

(1,805 posts)Almost all the cops I know (or women with cops for husbands) have been former military. I'd like to "support our troops" but nothing about them has changed much since the 60s and 70s. They want to hang on to that power they had in the Marines (it's usually Marines).

It's not that there's more incidents like this in the last few years .
It's that you just hear about it more because of cameras on every phone and the internet.
Police have been doing this for a very long time.

(23,726 posts)but I lived in a very economically depressed area of an inner city for awhile and saw how disrespectful these cops were to those who were paying their salaries. Washington is sales tax state so that means EVERY BODY who buys anything from soda to alcohol to a house or car pays those salaries.

I think the people that think cops are their friends are wealthy and live in places where the cops work for them. I don't even know who they "work for" around here, they appear to dislike us all equally and love to show their power by assaulting people seemingly at random.
They do as they please, act like terrorists and are accountable to no one. They are never charged with the crimes they commit.

They attack in packs, but that doesn't make them cowards. If anything, they go looking for trouble. And they readily deliver violence.

There are no good cops. There are only cops who will beat the shit out of you for a funny look, and cops who will back them up in court.

(15,438 posts)Cops never vote Democratic Party anyway. More often than not, they're a bunch of douchebag Republicans.
Someone needs to send this to Lawrence O'Donnell and Rachel Maddow. Under that article, in the comments section, someone listed the names of the Deputies - but only seven of them, and asked if people would call the station, but these are cops. If they'll beat an innocent man to death "just cuz" and then take everyone's cell phones away to destroy evidence of their fascist/Nazi behavior, then they won't have any qualms paying those callers a visit, or having pals of theirs in other districts to pay them a visit.
Instead, they should call and write the Mayor. Last time I looked, the Mayor is their boss.
The press needs to be informed, too, and this needs to be blown wide open. If they get away with this, they'll think they're omnipotent and I have no doubt it'll go on.

(28,979 posts)I want to see how they brutalize the public. But mostly, I want to see what happened when they stopped beating him and instead tried to perform CPR on him. I want to see what they said to each other as they stood their looking at their handiwork. I want to know if they silently high-fived each other or whether they had a hard time making eye contact after their brutal savagery. Did they feel like real men with the blood coursing like champions under their kevlar? Did their muscles bulge in pride?
Since they tried to confiscate all the evidence (cellphones), my sense is they didn't have those feelings after their cop wilding (the practice of marauding in bands to terroize strangers and to swagger and bully).

(3,183 posts)BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A 911 call from a witness of David Silva's deadly arrest was obtained by 23ABC today.
In an intense call made by a witness during the struggle, a woman is heard claiming officers continued to beat David Silva with their batons when he was already unconscious.
"There's a man laying on the floor and your police officers beat the [explicit] out of him and killed him," said the woman. "I have it all on video camera."
The woman continued:
"I am sitting here on the corner of Flower and Palm right now and you have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight Sheriffs. The guy was laying on the floor and eight Sheriff's ran up and started beating him up with sticks. The man is dead laying right here, right now."

(10,951 posts)should have the local TV news stations that have helicopters on speed dial? Imagine calling in on their news tip line and telling them exactly what you are viewing (hopefully they will be obtaining an audio tape of the phone call)? How about forwarding any pictures or videos to the local new stations as well? I think that if I lived in an area where there are a lot of known incidents of police abuse I would hope that I would try to think about how I would react if I ever find myself witnessing an event like this (I am the type of person who is always trying to think ahead). It is all about how to document what is going on and to send that info as fast as possible if you know that there is a good chance that the police will confiscate cameras or cell phones. I would be asking any tech savvy people how many places can I realistically be able to send a video before I lose my phone. I would consider having other groups programed into my phone like the ACLU, NAACP, etc. (any groups that would take incidents like this seriously).
The guy that was stuck in his house until he handed over the phone, why on earth didn't he spend the time sending his video all over the place (local news stations, CNN, MSNBC, ACLU, etc.)? Heck I would have posted it on youtube. The key is to take away any ability for the police to cover up their crime if they are able to take the phone away.
