(Julian) Castro cruises to third term as mayor
Mayor Julián Castro captured a third term in office Saturday in an election marked by little campaigning and abysmal voter turnout.
Castro's best friend — and twin brother — U.S. Rep. Joaquín Castro introduced the mayor to scores of supporters attending the Saturday night victory party at El Mirador's King William Garden House.
“It feels great to win again,” Castro told the crowd. “Thank you for the great support.”
In the coming two-year term, Castro said, he and his council colleagues would “make the tough choices” in balancing the city's $2 billion budget and “get priorities straight.”
