Mothers Day Mass Shooting during New Orleans Parade.

12 people were shot today during a Mothers Day second line on the corners of N. Villerie and Frenchman St. The conditions of the victims are not immediately known. There are reports of victims as young as 8 years old. Among the wounded was Mark Hertsgaard a writer for Vanity Fair, The Daily Beast, and The Nation.

A Mother's Day second-line shooting on Frenchmen Street in the 7th Ward, on Sunday about 1:45 p.m., left 19 people injured, according to the latest NOPD numbers. Earlier Sunday afternoon, NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said that about 12 people had been injured, but the toll later grew to 19, with the NOPD explaining that some victims initially hadn't reported being injured and more people continue to come forward.

Potentially gang related, but no indication if there was a target or if it was random.

I hope N.O. police take it as seriously as they would if it happened in a more upscale neighborhood.

are as afraid of the NOPD as people in the poor neighborhoods. With good reason. I grew up in Jefferson Parish, and I wouldn't live in Orleans Parish for any amount of money. I also left Jefferson Parish, because they are only a hair better.
