Tom Brokaw: 'I'm Offended By' IRS Targeting Of Conservative Groups (VIDEO)

Tom Brokaw scolded President Obama on Monday, criticizing his response to the IRS' admission that it targeted conservative groups.

The organization apologized on Friday for subjecting groups that had "tea party" or "patriot" in their exemption applications to extra reviews. Brokaw weighed in on Monday's "Morning Joe," expressing his disappointment with the administration.

When asked how the president should respond, he said, "There's only one spin for the president to make, which is to come out and say, 'This is outrageous, it's unacceptable in my administration. I have asked the people who are responsible for this to be removed from their jobs and we're gonna have a complete investigation and then throw a house cleaning if necessary of the IRS."

"I'm offended by it," Brokaw continued. "This is not a political issue or a conservative or a liberal issue. It really is about trusting your government especially when it comes to one of the most sensitive parts." He argued that Obama should have had a statement about the scandal. Obama did address the controversy later on Monday during his press conference with David Cameron.

1. Did Brokaw find offense in Bush's WH targeting peace activists they labeled as 'terrorists'?

Can anyone find transcripts of Brokaw's outrage that Bush used 'terror lists' filled with names of war protestors and peace activists to target his political critics?

Why would anyone want to be seen as a "scold" for a bunch of money loving oligarchs?

Brokaw really has little left of whatever gravitas he once possessed.

Mitch McConnell Had Previously Floated Karl Rove Idea To Target Weak Tea Party Candidates

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/09/mitch-mcconnell-karl-rove_n_2652927.html
WASHINGTON -- A firestorm on the right has greeted a new Karl Rove-backed super PAC aimed at knocking off weak conservative Senate candidates and protecting strong incumbents in GOP primaries, but the new PAC may well prove to be a plus in the eyes of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

That’s not surprising: The model for the new super PAC, dubbed the Conservative Victory Project, is akin to one that McConnell has touted the need for at GOP events in recent years, two GOP fundraisers with good ties to the senator told Huffington Post. Both asked for anonymity to speak candidly about private events and discussions.

The two fundraisers explained that McConnell has several times lamented that, in the last two elections, weaker and unelectable Tea Party candidates have been winning more GOP primary battles, often with hefty financing from right-leaning groups like the Club for Growth. In some cases, the weaker candidates have also been backed by Democratic groups seeking to boost their own party’s prospects in the fall elections.

And the result wasn’t pretty for the GOP in either cycle. In 2012, two GOP Senate candidates with Tea Party backing lost their races last fall in Missouri and Indiana, helping Democrats expand their Senate majority. In the case of Missouri, McConnell strongly condemned Tea Party favorite Todd Akin for his incendiary comments about “legitimate rape,” and sent signals that Akin should consider dropping out before a candidate deadline passed last fall to avoid a debacle on Election Day. In 2010, Tea Party candidates in Delaware and Nevada lost races that more moderate Republicans may have been able to take.>>>

I think we lost this one, already. If Rs are at any risk, rest assured there won't be an investigation. In the meantime, they get to put another public beatdown on the President.

I'm not saying there's not something "there" there, I'm saying it won't be pursued. It's "outrageous." I know that because the President just said so.

from the left.....yet not one cog of the corpmedia machine dared to note that the GOP establishment players had been actively working to stop Tea Party activists from controlling GOP primaries against current GOP senators and congressmen.

Democrats BENEFIT from Tea Party candidates winning their primaries. Why on earth would any Democrat want to help GOP senators and congressmen keep their seats?

The only cause for concern that I see is YOUR declaration..."I think we lost this one, already." Yeah - I guess that means we should ignore facts, reality, GOP culpability and move on, right?

Democrats don't fight back.

When was the last time we went after Rs like they go after Dems?

Let me know.

Follow up: what have you seen that makes you believe this time will be different!?

Dems don't fight back. Where'd you get the idea we did? Remember Nancy Pelosi and her preemptive strike against investigating BushCo? Rep. Weiner's wiener is what got Nancy's ire? BushCo...pfft. And by not doing so, she created (monsters) media darlings: Cheney's a movie star and GWB is a great painter.

Our party leaders: Gore? Kerry? Pelosi? Reid? even Obama?? When have they fought the good fight against Rs?

Tell me about the times Dems got down and dirty. Rs win the media wars because they wage them and Dems roll over.

Welcome to America.

the way it is?

Man - you really DON'T know some of us here. BTW - there isn't anyone in modern history who investigated and exposed more corruption by GOP administrations than John Kerry, who, apparently, performed this without YOU even noticing. I suppose had YOU been advising him he would never have continued his work to expose IranContra, BCCI, CIA drug running, and S&L problems.

The Obama administration continues to stoke tensions with Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro following Maduro’s narrow election victory. On Wednesday, Secretary of State John Kerry said he does not know if the United States will recognize Maduro’s defeat of opposition leader Henrique Capriles Radonski and renewed his call for a recount.

it was needed to be done before election day. McAuliffe didn't WANT any Dem nominee to prevail in 2004 because his agenda was all about Hillary2008.

What was the main agenda when Dean took over as DNC chair? Rebuild the party infrastructure in every state where it had been left to collapse since 1996. And many of us believe it was done deliberately by a few powerful groups within our own party looking out for their future self-interest.
