All of these "scandals" will eventually play themselves out wherein I will be able to watch the news again. This is May of '13 and most people I talk to (the ones politically aware) could pretty much care less about these "scandals." They are worried about their jobs, medical costs/insurance, and education for their children. I did hear a blurb this morning from a Rep. that this is a concern of theirs and that the public in general will blame them for beating a dead horse (Benghazi), the IRS scandal really isn't one since tax-evading groups do need to be scrutinized. The AP thing is a mystery to me and I don't know yet why this was done. This will be the thorn in the side of the Administration, whether they were directly involved or not.
I guess what I'm saying is when you have a story, tell it, see if it gets legs and then let it go. We all know Reps don't work that way and I'm hoping this will be the case, much to their peril. I could be wrong of course, but I just don't see it working in their favor.

(11,417 posts)low information voters fired up.
The repukes in congress are whores for the Kochs and such and they can't tell the truth so they have to make this shit up to get enough voters to win an election.
They are a party of whores.

(7,044 posts)That's all the Repubbies do - poke their hypocritical noses into the crap heap.
Otherwise, it is "no no no no" to anything that might be helpful to America and Americans.
They are indeed overplaying their pathetic, lameass chickenhawk hand.

(26,355 posts)Benghazi's well past overplayed - I think most of the country except for the teabaggers knows it's bullshit.
And the other "scandals" won't amount to much either. If the GOP pushes it, they might get Holder to resign, and I wouldn't complain about that - he's a terrible AG.

(52,208 posts)they republicans in the house are playing rather effectively to their strongly republican, gerrymandered districts, as are the republicans in republican states.
if the republican party were a single-minded entity with the singular objective of winning the white house, then yes, they would be overplaying their hand. but in reality, they're not playing that hand at all. they're not really thinking of presidential politics, they're all thinking of winning their next congressional election.
it's a strategy for self-preservation and likely will avoid diminishing their numbers, though it's not a strategy for gaining seats or winning presidential elections. they're leaving that job to the next presidential candidate, who will have to carefully distance himself (after primary season) from the wackos in congress.

It's all premature and a damned weak effort. I'm disappointed.

(5,364 posts)I think the 1st poster "upaloopa" nailed it. They've given up on trying to appeal to a broader base and are just chucking hunks of red meat to their core base of angry savages. No well read or pragmatic person cares about these scandals du-jour.
