Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt is difficult to have sympathy for the AP (and the rest of the mainstream media).
This is the same mainstream media which has told us that government intrusions into our personal lives/information is for our own safety.
For we common people, the government not only records the number/time/date/length/source of the call(as they did with the AP), they record the call. The same is done for email communications.
Yet when it happens to them, all hell brakes lose.

(38,437 posts)My crazy rightwing in-laws are all about people they dislike being "elitists." I guess they get it from Beck, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, or some other brainless blowhard.
Is this becoming a leftwing insult, too? Do we somehow prefer that everyone strive for total mediocrity or less?

Now, I guess you could apply a blanket rule that everyone behaving so hypocritically should deserve no mercy in such a situation but, frankly, that's just not tenable.
These people buy ink by the barrel. Now that they're getting a taste of what we've had to deal with, I say it only benefits us to support them because, although we may not always like or trust them, the shared common cause benefits us both.
What's the alternative? Relishing their victimization as some sort of due comeuppance to make up for our victimization?
In that case the real wrongdoer gets off the hook while two victims squabble. Benefits us not a bit.

(19,348 posts)We commoners have been having our electronic communications tracked and saved.
The AP and the MSM have told us despite concerns, this is for our own "safety".
Yet, the AP has the time/date/duration/ of some calls subpoenaed, they raise hell.
The AP is being hypocritical.
