I'm trying to educate my (R)-Fundy sister. She used to be really cool.

She sent this:

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel or envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
-- Winston Churchill

My reply:

Yes, Sis. That's the difference between Socialism and a Socialist Democracy. Just as there is a difference between actual Communism and theoretical Communism.

They all work, in theory, but then people get involved and it all goes to hell and you end up with a ruling class that doesn't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

That's a huge problem we are having in this nation

the crazy Fundy Republicans are being treated as equals and being treated with respect which should not be happening

I see it all the time , people will call Republicans monsters and traitors , but then when it comes to family members they are called "loved ones"

Thankfully I do not have any relatives to disown. I have enough trouble with supposed former friends. There is no practical way on this planet to argue with these rock heads. No way to penetrate. It is like a disease has entered the brain.

Turned out to be a home schooling group, an anti abortion group and his local repugs.

It sits there in black and white, forever, that he was somehow
something like: Pro American and WHAT!?

Unable or unwilling to recognize nuance, to think things through, to connect dots they are perfectly capable of connecting if they wanted to. This plays right into the hands of identity politics. Picking a side and circling the wagons. Feels good to them. The only way some will stop doing this is if they get burned by their own "side".

You know what kills me? ALL of my closest friends are turning rightward and I find them harder and harder to be around. Hell, I used to be to the right of them less then a few years ago. They were pretty apathetic about politics then, basically "informing" themselves with 10 minutes a day of watching talking heads. Not stupid, but very politically, civic-ly ignorant. Now they're getting rabid. Don't know how much longer I can maintain friendships with them.

my SIL & vice-versa. Then we discovered she's a R and I'm a D. Things changed after that for both my husband and I.

Then there's my sister who claims to be an I. Not true, she's a closet R. Her, I can deal with because she is just clueless and is not obnoxious about politics.

SIL on the other hand is in your face, even my husband thinks different of her since he found out. They were brought up D and the rest of them remain D. We don't even read her emails anymore because they are always R shit! She's not married so her change didn't come from that. But she has a highfalutin job in the medical field and all her co-workers seem to be R. Ugh!
