Snip:"Hey, Michele: maybe, just possibly maybe, the guilty party is not God at all. Maybe the guilt belongs to the despicable terrorist killers who flew those planes and pulled those triggers. A crackpot idea, perhaps, but you might want to give it a moments thought sometime."

(90,956 posts)I have found it helps to be a polytheist these days. I used to try to defend God from assholes like Bachmann, but I finally gave up and realized that THEIR god really IS vengeful, mean, petty, spiteful, and all the other things they say about him.
MY god, on the other hand, loves her children and wishes they would all get along, but recognizes that it is their responsibility to do so. She doesn't send tornadoes, or AIDS, or earthquakes, or wars. That is the working-out of other forces -- or perhaps the agency of that other god, the one Michele Bachmann and Pat Robertson worship so ardently.
