I agree that people are very kind. I wish I could thank every person who gave me a heart individually, and am overwhelmed to be honest, by them. All I can say is that each one is deeply appreciated.
Trying to give back as much as I can especially since it is for such a good cause.

(11,304 posts)I could roller skate. I just couldn't see me getting on those thin blades. It scared me to death. I am a chicken at heart. But I usually will speak up if I see someone doing something they shouldn't be doing. I wish I could afford to give hearts. I live on a fixed income. I try once a year to support DU. Which is one of the few organizations I will send to. I gave to St Jude and after that every charity organization calls and asks for money. I was sending money but I finally put a stop it just gets to be to much. I will give direct to PP from now on and to my local food banks and charities around my area. If everyone does this it will really help people.

(62,325 posts)I have no idea how to do that but he offered to help DUers make their own, which was another really kind gesture from yet another DUer.
Funny, I was always less confident about roller skates than ice skates. I got so used to the ice skating blades and using the ice to control them, (dig in when you need to lol) that when I tried roller skates I felt like I had no control over the wheels lol!
But I love watching professional roller skaters and it is awesome to me to see how they can do on roller skates what ice skaters do on the ice.
I once was watching speed skaters at the rink, and was amazed at how fast they were going. They invited me to hang on to the end of their line (they held onto each other when practicing) which I did. That was scary but fun.

(11,304 posts)Germany and he had a 2d job at the roller skating rink on the base. That was back in the mid 50s. He use to take us and we learned that way. Gosh what fun we had as kids. We always had lots to do. In the winter we would wet the ground and you would have ice skating. I would watch. But well all went sledding. We used to hill right by the housing area and it was long. I still have my german sled. It is 54 yrs old. I keep it for my flower pot. When my husband and I went back in 1980 I brought one for my son. We still have his. Last year he was dragging his daughter on it. Really cool.

(62,325 posts)part with it. That's such a nice story and now the sled has even more memories attached to it.
I bet you had fun at the rink. What a great childhood you had.

(11,304 posts)mother and father (LOL) making us kids underwear for the summer time. We lived in the Phillipines and we didn't have air conditioning way back then and it was very hot. All the kids ran around in underwear. They were like bloomers. My mother also made mine and my twin sister holy communion dress and veils. She made our dresses out of white sheets. They looked beautiful. You'd never knew they were bed sheets. LOL. Boy now I look back and thank the lord what a wonderful childhood I had. I remember coming back to the states in 1963 when I really got to watch TV. I was so in awe of the Flintstones cartoons. LOL. But like I said really there is no place like home.
