Three tornadoes in Texas last night

Officials awaited daybreak to fully assess the scope of the destruction left in the wake of a deadly tornado in Granbury, Texas.

Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds said he hoped the death toll from the tornado would hold at six, with about 50 people injured and 250 people left homeless.

The twister was part of a swarm of tornadoes unleashed on north Texas, devastating two neighbourhoods in southern Granbury and a neighbourhood in nearby Cleburne.

"I've been assured by my deputies on the scene that they're pretty confident with the six that they found, but there was a report that two of these people that they found were not even near their homes. So we're going to have to search the area out there," he said.

I've been traumatized by tornado's all my life. The thing with them is you never have much lead in time to get your act together.

and I haven't experienced a rain like that in I don't know how long, was more like what you see with a hurricane.

It was scary. I haven't been frightened of the weather in quite some time. Thankfully, my neighborhood just got the insane rain and crashing thunder and lightening, the sirens never fired up in my specific neighborhood.

I will say this... tornado reporting/warning has gotten a whole lot better. Last spring when we got 14 tornadoes, and with this storm, the weather people were able to be very specific about where the greatest danger was and when it would be striking what neighborhoods/areas. The sirens are more targeted too.

5. I'll take a hurricane over a tornado every day of the week

At least we get early warnings. And yes lots of improvements re even tornado warnings.

7. This is too weird.

First West and now Granbury. I used to have relatives in West, and one of my uncle's best friends got his home destroyed in West. As for Granbury, my same uncle used to have a home there on the Brazos.

I grew up with tornadoes, and my dad used to drive us through tornado sites to see the damage. They are so devastating mainly because much of the time you get no warning or have no ability to escape... especially at night.

11. We had a looong night.

We're north of Cleburne, and just as one would pass, we'd hear the weather radio go off again.

I guess it was around 4am when we finally collapsed into bed.
