Why is this IRS "issue" an issue again?

I can understand if the IRS targeted a racial group, an age group, or a gender, and if there was harrassment involved.

But in this case they're targeting groups, for investigation only, which have explicitly expressed anti-tax sentiment - and are even named after an anti-tax protest (Tea Party). They've always assigned audits on a wide range of financial "red flags", which may or may not be the result of an individual's beliefs or investment strategy as much as a sign of wrongdoing.

It would seem more than likely the FBI investigates armed militias more than religious groups, and IMO that's ok. Nothing would ever get done if all investigations had to be doled out "equally", whatever that means.

So WTF?

the mainstream repugs seek to diminish the power of the teabaggers - as if Dr. Frankenstein had any hope of destroying the monster he created either.

That should answer your question definitively.

of the GOP as an issue. What does it take to make this man a leader?

Maybe it can't be done.

Now Republicans and Tea Partiers can claim they're being fed to lions, sent to concentration camps, and banned from Starbucks while standing up for their principles.

They just had political-sounding names. 202 other groups were similarly targeted including progressive ones.

Jon Stewart is buying into this bullshit bigtime, and I'm trying to figure out why.

Unusual for him.

And the IRS doesn't immediately illicit sympathy from most people.

Here's the relevant page in the IRS report. The paragraph above the pie chart explains.

I only wish they had broken out what keywords were included under "Other".
