Millions more than the 43 acquit votes represent. I'm sure.

(4,109 posts)1. 47,000,000 more if we're talking total population.
331,000,000 x .57 = 189,000,000
331,000,000 X .43 = 142,000,000
Hope that helps.

(11,074 posts)5. It's not that easy. Every state has two Senators regardless of population.
Dont have the energy to calculate it on a state by state basis but it would be WAY more than 47 million.

(15,246 posts)7. The comparison was to a recent poll that
showed 57% of Americans supporting conviction and 43% opposed. The votes of 100 Senators broke down exactly that way, 57% for, 43% against.

(3,691 posts)2. I Saw That Someone Did The Calculation and It's Much Higher Than Just 57% of the Population

(9,946 posts)3. Someone posted earlier today that the 57 would equal 2/3 of the nation.

Excellent Ari Berman tweets on the Senate and impeachment vote.

Senators voting to impeach represent 61.6% of the population (202,119,286 people)
Senators voting against represent 38.2% of the population (125,414,488 people)
Senators voting for impeachment represent 76.7 million more people than senators voting against.

This just underscores how undemocratic US Senate is:
By 2040, roughly 70% of the country will be represented by 30 senators. The remaining Americans, who are disproportionately whiter, older, and more rural, will have 70 senators.

This just underscores how undemocratic US Senate is:
-split 50-50 but Dems represent 41 million more people
-15 states with 38 million people elect 30 GOP senators
-California with 40 million people elect 2 Dems

(4,469 posts)9. 126,404,936(acquit) vs 202,366,371(convict)
Giving each senator 1/2 the population of their state (population from wiki 2020 estimate)
