A second chance...

Some say you don't get a second chance. Well this morning I was doing my checking the job sites thing, listening to Stephanie Miller and lo the phone rings. It was from the boss of a company I interviewed with in February. They need yet another person for the job I interviewed for and yes she actually did save my resume. Originally it was a three day a week job NOW its four. I have to go in for two days next week they want to see how I do at the job and if I like it. So next week - my second shot.

I have had about seven interviews in the past what oh 3 months or so that and there have been a LOT more possible jobs listed on the various sites I check each day. Something is brewing here. I know the Buddhists must be right - the only thing you can be sure of is change. The universe is NOT a steady state place and I know my situation had to change sooner or later. Persistence and working it is what will do it NOT some miracle.

I DON'T have it yet but I think it looks good. It has been almost two years since I lost my last job. The company went bust the end of August 2011. I worked that job for nearly 32 years. In the course of the past nearly two years I have learned not to take ANYTHING for granted. I'll believe it when they say "you're hired". If they do that first paycheck is gonna be sweet no matter what.

I started my own business in '09 after Bernie Madoff ponzied us in '08. I don't believe anything unless I see it in my hand. I've done jobs I'll never get paid for. Tax write offs don't pay the bills.

I also hope they are paying you for those "test" days. A friend of mine lost his job almost two years ago and received that phone call from his ex-employer offering to give him his old job back. Needless to say, my friend was very happy and looking forward to his return to work in a couple weeks. In the interim, he got another call; there had been some "realignment" of the company, and his old position was now paying half of his former wages. 💩

I'm afraid this is probably not an unusual story today, and unfortunately many folks will have to suck it up and take the hit to their pride. Fortunately my friends wife's job pays enough to allow him to tell his ex-boss to "take that job and shove it."

10. My two day "screen test".....

My two day "screen test" for the job is Tuesday and Wednesday. I figure that they know someone isn't going to be able to do the job right out of the gate. It is probably more of a test to see how you learn the job and how you deal with deadlines, etc. So I just pay attention when its being explained, take notes, and be cool and work the researches to get them done correctly and as quickly as I can. Hell the whole thing with my last job was dealing with timed deadlines either for researches or video editing orders. I think the boss said they want you to do searches/researches on two companies a day. That's four hours for each - if I get the job once I get up to speed this shouldn't be too hard. We'll see.
