Ambassador Thomas Pickering and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Michael Mullen are refusing a request from Rep. Darrel Issa to meet in private, preferring a public airing.
Thomas Pickering and Michael Mullen called the proposed closed-door proceeding an inappropriate precondition to their testifying before the committee in a letter sent Thursday to Issa, the chairman of the House Oversight panel. The letter was made public by the State Department.
In the past week members of your Committee have publicly criticized in both an open hearing and in the media the work of the Accountability Review Board , the retired diplomat and the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff wrote. Having taken liberal license to call into question the Boards work, it is surprising that you now maintain that members of the Committee need a closed-door proceeding before being able to ask informed questions at a public hearing.

One day after The White House released 100 pages of Benghazi emails, a report has surfaced alleging that Republicans released a set with altered text.
CBS News reported Thursday that leaked versions sent out by the GOP last Friday had visible differences than Wednesday's official batch. Two correspondences that were singled out in the report came from National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes and State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland."

The fraud, forgery, and character assassination has to be thumped on day after day, preferably any time a Democrat gets in front of a camera. And with it, thump on their activities as the obstruction party and the stupid party.

(16,993 posts)Republicans don't want America to see first hand evidence that they've been lying to everyone all along.
Instead of doing their jobs, which is to represent the people--all of them--the GOP is wasting time and money trying to make President Obama, his administration, and the Democrats look bad.
Wake up, America. Our real enemy is the Republican Party.

(3,539 posts)Ya boner you're right. Somebody should go to jail. Falsifying evidence is a bad thing....
Unfortunately 'we' and the public in general have become so accustomed to republican lies and criminal behavior that I doubt much will come of it.
We have come to expect it.
Far too many Democrats will just wright it off and say 'stupid republicans; their just like that'.
What is worse is that a good percentage of the republican base would cheer for it.
