(story update) Kai, the hatchet-wielding hitchhiker, arrested on suspicion of murder

Caleb McGillvary, also known as Kai, the hatchet-wielding hitchhiker of “Smash, smash, SUH-MASH!” fame, was arrested in Philadelphia on a New Jersey murder warrant, authorities said.

McGillvary, 24, was arrested without incident at a Greyhound Bus stop about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Authorities in Union County, New Jersey, named the animated, couch-crashing drifter as a suspect in the death of New Jersey attorney Joseph Galfy.

Galfy was found dead Monday inside his home on Starlite Drive when officers made a welfare check, Union County prosecutors spokesman John Holl said.

An autopsy determined Galfy died of blunt force trauma.

McGillvary was recognized by a Starbucks employee when he stopped in for a drink, said Philadelphia police officer Christine O’Brien. After he left, the employee called police, who searched the area and found McGillvary at the bus station.

Officials did not say where McGillvary was headed.

am on the jury. Maybe even longer than 24 hours.

We dont know for sure whether that happened here, but there it is.

3. I understand the sentiment, but then I'd have to live with not only being raped but being a murderer

I want them in prison. No parole. There it is. Because I would not want to have to live with myself as a raped murderer. And yes, I have been there.

perfectly. Surviving the rape and healing from it and shedding the dysfunctional ways I found to cope in the first few years, was tough enough. Adding living with the reality of taking another life... can't fathom the additional trauma.

Peace be with you.

7. I find it interesting those protesting "innocent until proven guilty" in support of Kai yet agree

that he was raped, that the guy who was killed does not get the "innocent until proven guilty" thing. Reading about it on facebook and here and other places, not a DU in particular, just that people are more willing to believe innocence for some purported crimes than others.

If there was any robbery involved that will be telling.

Nobody knows what happened.

9. But then the accused rapist does not get his day in court

Such a standard implies that the best thing to do if you wrongfully kill someone would be to claim rape, whether you were raped or not.

That doesn't seem a very just way to handle things.

If the cops are right, and this guy has left a trail of bodies, I hope you will rethink your principle there.

12. Oh there still would have to be an investigation, and I am not advocating anyone do it. But...

if I am on a jury and it is clear that a rape victim killed their attacker, I am voting to acquit.

He's saying that it was actually Kai who tried to run into them.

The plot is thick with this one.
