You can't make this up.
See the man in the black shirt on the left? That's Clint Webster, a 2010 GOP candidate for House District 24.What's so special about Clint Webster, you ask? We reported on Mr. Webster as part of a 2010 release of the criminal records of a number of legislative candidates, mostly Republican:
Webster was arrested in 1987 for disturbing the peace, and in 1991 for assault. Webster pleaded guilty to felony assault and menacing. The arrest report obtained from the Jefferson County Sheriff shows that Webster was apprehended after firing two shots from a semi-automatic pistol at his ex-wife. When asked by arresting officers what his intention was when he fired, Webster stated something along the lines that he had warned his wife to stop bothering him and had even threatened to kill her, yet she showed up at his home anyway.
(snip)
Now, what do you suppose Clint Webster, of all people, was doing at this press conference today?
We can't shake the sense of amazement: these same county sheriffs stood before the Colorado legislature this year and testified against Senate Bill 197, a bill to protect victims of domestic violence from partners with guns. Today, they're standing with one of the worst Republican mistakes of the 2010 election season, a man whose biggest claim to fame is having fired shots at his wife?

(794 posts)The re-arming of wife beaters, drunk drivers and domestic terrorists has been the cause dujour for the NRA and other extreme gun fetish clubs. This turn of events doesn't suprise those that are aware of the tactics and ideology of extreme anti-American right wing gundamentalists. Remember: to be a teabagger one must hate everyone and everything that loves America while actively endorsing the death of our liberties.
Why do teabagging gundamentalists hate so much of what makes America great? Perhaps there is a psychological disorder that is shared by all right wing extremists that render them bereft of thier humanity and any shred of a sense of responsibility.
The NRA's membership has always included violent misanthropes- it is becoming increasingly clear that the misogyny and racism of it's misanthropic members is the only thing that matters. Americans are waking-up to the lies and antiAmerican paranoid conspiracy theories promulgated by the NRA and other man boy gun love associations. The NRA is attempting to destroy the 2nd amendment and America in order to achieve thier aim of an America divided into a loose confederation with no bill of rights or protections for citizens from the tyranny of the states.
Any group that wants to re-fight the civil war is, by definition, commiting treason. Why do NRA adherents support treason?

(11,064 posts)for enhanced sentences?
None of them seemed to have done so when the Webster incident arose. None of them ever seem to do so?
If you know of any gun controllers who have pushed for enhanced sentences for those who illegally use firearms, where are they?
I fully expect gun-controllers to be opposed to keeping criminals who use firearms in prison for longer periods of time.
