ABC News And CBS News Officially Normalize Fabricated Reporting

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/abc-news-and-cbs-news-officially-normalize-fabricated-reporting/

The dust has settled on the inaccurate email “summaries” that were passed off as real emails by ABC News’ Jonathan Karl and CBS News’ Sharyl Attkisson, and the result is that both news organizations have issued a pass for this basic journalistic breach. Jon Karl put out a statement, sanctioned by ABC News, expressing regret for his source’s error, and characterizing his egregious misrepresentation that he “obtained emails” as a matter of clarity. CBS News’ official position, as of this moment, is that Sharyl Attkisson’s reporting included a disclosure that the emails were not really emails, despite the existence of a memo demonstrating the opposite.

(snip)

As any of Jon Karl’s colleagues, would likely tell you, the problem wasn’t a lack of clarity and precision in attribution, it was an overabundance of it. Jon Karl, and later, Martha Raddatz and Reena Ninan, were very clear that Jonathan Karl had “obtained emails” and “unearthed emails.” It’s on video. Raddatz and Ninan might take a different view of Karl’s decision to implicate them in his false reporting. That ABC News and Jonathan Karl refuse to apologize for this sends the clear message that such a breach is acceptable to them, as long as the results pan out. If those Republican sources had taken better notes, we would never have known that Jon Karl falsely presented them as actual emails, and as a matter of policy, we won’t know the next time this happens, either.

CBS News, meanwhile, still has not corrected, or had their reporter correct, their own reporting on the email summaries, despite the fact that their own Chief White House Correspondent has reported on the significance of the discrepancies between the summaries that Shary Attkisson reported as authentic emails, and the actual emails. On Friday, CBS News Spokesperson Sonya McNair told me that “Sharyl has impeccable sources and her reporting on this subject speaks for itself.”

(snip)

If ABC and CBS News want to continue to enjoy the trust and respect of the public, I believe they need to acknowledge these serious breaches, apologize for them, and correct them. Failing that, they are not just damaging their own reputations, and those of Jon Karl and Sharyl Attkisson, but the trust that every other serious reporter has worked hard to earn.

(end snips)

Have they finished what Breitbart started?

NBC hasn't even mentioned it. One would think they'd be happy to go after the competition over this. I guess their corporate masters are more concerned about pushing these fake scandals.

this week then we deserve all the trouble we get. We have an opportunity to strike a decisive blow and expose the nefarious deeds of
our adversaries. If we choose not to then who else is to blame. The President needs to come out and ask who altered these emails and ask for an investigation just as asshat Issa has done. Rachel Maddow has got the ball rolling. The whole left wing blogosphere needs to unify as the right does and get this meme rolling. It is tantamount to treason to lie in order to impeach a president. They deceived the American public now let's see who "they" are.

like the print media, their audience has dwindled to the few who cannot use the internet. The old coots who refuse to keep up with the rest of the world. They must cater to a rapidly shrinking demographic who will all be dead in 10 or 15 years.
You cannot even listen to the radio as the neocon billionaires own every station thanks to saint Ronnie but we are going to all have satallite/internet radio soon anyway.

don't pay any attention to the news, and one reason is that they don't trust the corporate media be it tv, print or internet, intra-gram, twitter, et al.

Many Americans are concerned about everyday living, well paid jobs, health insurance, where our fucked up congress don't give a shit and the corporate media don't neither. Piss off enough Americans can see what is happening with all these BS pounding of so called scandals, and 2014 will be all the Dems. GOP party is getting smaller and smaller.

Then they will be taken for suckers again and get caught up in another doctored story. Perhaps that doesn't concern them but make no mistake, it will happen again without corrective action now.
