Hungary destroy all Monsanto GMO Corn Fields

Hungary has taken a bold stand against biotech giant Monsanto and genetic modification by destroying 1000 acres of maize found to have been grown with genetically modified seeds, according to Hungary deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar. Unlike many European Union countries, Hungary is a nation where genetically modified (GM) seeds are banned. In a similar stance against GM ingredients, Peru has also passed a 10 year ban on GM foods.

Almost 1000 acres of maize found to have been ground with genetically modified seeds have been destroyed throughout Hungary, deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Lajos Bognar said. The GMO maize has been ploughed under, said Lajos Bognar, but pollen has not spread from the maize, he added.

Unlike several EU members, GMO seeds are banned in Hungary. The checks will continue despite the fact that seek traders are obliged to make sure that their products are GMO free, Bognar said.

There was a case of a Canadian farmer who had a long battle with Monsanto and Canadians I know personally complain that they are stuck as the USA is without COO & GMO labeling.

I don't regard hybrids or sports as bad but prefer some of the older heirlooms. But some of the GMO crops have a very bad reputation, deserved or not.

I don't approve of Roundup ready crops made to be resistant to herbicide, because poisoning the soil to create monoculture is stupid and short sighted, IMO.

I'm not going to change my mind on that, and don't want to support that by not being given a choice to not buy the stuff. Where I live, we do have choice for the most part.

In the USA, however, we have the Republican Party -- which slobbers all over itself in its shameless quisling efforts to kiss Overlord Ass, Inc. Thus, as a consequence America has mutant corporate crudola occultly infesting the majority of 'foodlike-substance products' sold to an unwitting guinea-pig public.

In 2006, my Wife & I sold everything,
bought a small piece of land in the Ouachita Mountains of west Arkansas,
far from Agricultural, Industrial, urban, and suburban pollution.

We planted a big Veggie Garden, Fruit Trees, and a variety of Berries,
raise chickens,
and keep Honey Bees.

We live as sustainably, independently, and Green as possible.

We are not "Survivalists",
just Old Hippies who have always been attracted to this lifestyle.
So far, so good.

There is a Rural/Farm Group here:

and a Gardening Forum here:

These groups used to have more members,

but most of the dedicated regulars have left due to the open hostility toward those who dare to question the direction the Democratic Party leadership is taking toward the Privatization and Corporatization of America.

We're practically neighbors!

I was born in New Orleans and spent most of my life in South Louisiana.
I am familiar with the coast and coastal marshes from Galveston to the mouth of the Mississippi River.

I spent too many years around Lake Charles, Cameron, Holly Beach, Black Bayou, Grand Cheniere, White Lake, Atchafalaya Basin, Morgan City, Lafayette....
I could drive from Houma to the Cameron Docks dead asleep....and have.
I can play BooRay (Bourre') with the best of them, and loves me some good Boudin.

One of the things I really miss living up here is the South La. food.
No place in the World eats better.

I'm getting homesick for the food, the coast, and my mis-spent youth just typing this out.

How are the Crawfish this year?

garden, bees, chickens for eggs and meat and we raise pigs as well. we heat with wood pellets and are in the process of installing solar. our kids go to a little country school and we have an incredibly green and supportive community of people around us.

despite a 60% reduction in income in order to move to this area, we live better and have more freedom than we ever did in our previous life.

not one single regret. you old hippies paved the way for folks like us!

Thu May 23, 2013, 01:12 PM

It does NOT occur naturally in Corn, Corn Byproducts, or Corn Pollen.

We don't care for Sweet Corn,
and generally don't plant corn at all,
but when we do, we plant small quantities of Heirloom varieties
for our own experimentation, and to check viability of the seed stock.

We also keep Honey Bees,
and won't take the chance of killing them to help out Monsanto.
We refuse to even feed them Corn Syrup,
and avoid eating it ourselves.

The Science is still OUT on GM products.
The research has never been done,
and the products haven't been long term field tested.

GM Products have been approved by our USDA and FDA (both owned by Monsanto)
under the Looks Close Enough to Me (Grandfather) provision that lets them escape having to prove the safety of their inventions.

It may turn out in 20 or 30 years that these products are absolutely harmless, but until then we (and our Bees) are going to stay away from them.
BTW: We haven't had an incidence of Colony Collapse.
Our Bees seem to like living here.
We do too.

I just wanted to point out that the Bt was not the equivalent incorporating chlordane into an edible crop.

By the way, a lot of research has been done on genetically modified crops. Tons.

If you would prefer a different source for the same information, feel free to start another thread. As Diane Feinstein told Ted Cruz, "I'm not a sixth-grader.............I'm reasonably well-educated, and thank you for the lecture." You would be far more persuasive if you dropped the condescending tone.

Why would a city pay to force its residents to ingest nocuous industrial waste for no reason?
That’s what the reams of documents on fluoridating water, the conflicting claims and counter-claims threatening to bury city council, boil down to.

You start out arguing the science or lack of science of a certain issue, but then you begin to devolve into personal derogatory attacks, which are usually meant just to push a person's buttons. I have decades of experience with very advanced button-pushers. You move from attacking an idea or belief to attacking the person who expresses said ideas or beliefs.

So many of your comments are more insults than information. Ridicule can be a very effective tool, though it would never be tolerated in a serious debate and is not likely to change anyone's mind. I will however check out the occasional link that pro-GMOers include amid their personal insults. I have found that the authors of such articles are often affiliated with groups that are funded by companies like...............Monsanto.
