Arizona Rep: Hispanics Are Good Workers But The Undocumented Shouldn't Get COVID Vaccine

There are a lot of very stupid people in congress. Here's another one from Arizona that doesn't seem to understand that getting everyone the vaccine makes sense, while what she's saying is utter foolishness.

Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) defended an amendment that would put undocumented immigrants at the end of the line for a COVID vaccine by saying that she personally knew that Hispanic people are "very good workers."

The amendment was proposed during a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee as it considered President Joe Biden's COVID-19 relief bill.

Lesko said it was "amazing" to her that Democrats voiced opposition to the amendment.

"I worked with people that are Hispanic, I mean, they're very good workers. You know, we're compassionate people, but for goodness' sakes, we have to take care of American citizens or people that are here legally first," she said.

Lesko said she would not be able to explain to senior citizens in her state why undocumented people would be getting the vaccine along with the rest of the population.

"I just think that's totally wrong," she concluded.

Who cleans her husband’s office and her childrens’ schools? Who sits next to her babysitter on the city bus? The caregivers in nursing homes? When she and her husband go out to dinner, who are the busboys in the restaurant? The salad prep workers?

I’m a Californian. I know very well which economic niches these immigrants fill. They are’t all hoeing crops and picking broccoli. She may think they are invisible (yet “hard working” ! ) but in fact they share a lot of space and air with the rest of us. If not for sheer humanity, then at least enlightened self-interest should dictate making sure they don’t get sick with contagious diseases.

What an idiot.

This is the ultimate in backward thinking. Why not vaccinate all individuals whom are the most likely to transmit COVID 19. Maybe not first but at least at some point. The unvaccinated are like having tiny points of infection running around making other people sick. That’s crazy talk. Everyone needs to be vaccinated, period. The reason the polio vaccine worked is because nearly everyone got the shot. We need to make sure everyone gets it, give everyone a gift card after the second shot.

All the testing places wanted a drivers license or state id just to get Covid tested. We tried free testing sites and sites that charged to no avail. I finally found a community health care site that focuses on the undocumented and my spouse was able to get tested. We are still waiting for the results. I am very fortunate in that I work in health care at a local hospice and have been vaccinated, but my husband who is an essential worker and like so many other’s this past year, has risked his life because he needs his paycheck to help take care of our family. This virus does not discriminate and doesn’t recognize borders, but the state of Arizona, our legislators and Governor Ducey have responded to Covid with a completely myopic response and it’s getting the residents of Arizona killed and until we address the inequities of testing, we certainly won’t be able to mitigate this virus, vaccine or vaccine.
