75% of the cost to install shelters, provided that state and local government bodies pony up the rest.

It took at least a couple years to raise funds for the part not covered by the FEMA grant, but we finally got it. Lots of businesses and individuals contributed, as well. I'm even more glad now, after the Moore tragedy.

People everywhere believe that they can't be in the path of a storm. Look at how all the info on global climate change is treated.

CNN interviewed the mom of one of the kids who died at Plaza Towers. She was very upset that they did not have storm shelters. She probably assumed they did. Her son was born in 2004. He must have started school in 2008 or 2009.

For several years. Attended Plaza Towers Elementary School when it was brand new, the first year it opened I was in fourth grade. All told, lived in OK for ten years. NEVER saw anything like this. Maybe that is part of it. I would thing that after the last three tornados the school district might think it was time to pony up and build the shelter. I can tell you we had storm cellars in other houses we lived in but not the one in Plaza Towers. I can also tell you that house is totally gone after this last tornado.

I think these weather extremes are getting worse and will continue to get worse, so we need to protect ourselves. There is no other choice unless we want to keep enduring these tragedies.

Living in OK that long ago and seeing nothing like this, it is so hard. I see vaguely familiar places totally destroyed and I wonder about all the dreams I have had about this level of destruction.

You guys are terrible gamblers and play bad odds.

What are the chances of getting whacked again in the next 5 years?

Any takers? Bet your life?
