man with pistol at park (fitchburg/madison)
I was engaging in lawful open carry with my family. 2 people eyed up my pistol but had no reaction beyond that. 2 people were enjoying the beautiful day regardless. And 2 people didn't stay long once you noticed that I was exercising my rights. To the third party, I'm not sorry that you felt inadequate around us. I've been around guns all my life and have never seen anyone shot. I know the true value of defending my life and family. You should thank me for being there to protect all of us in the unlikely event of a would be mass shooter. Especially since so many children have been targeted in the last year.

OK, when you see someone carrying a gun in the park, how are you supposed to know what that persons intentions are? It makes me uncomfortable to see someone who is not a police officer displaying a weapon... I probably would have left too. I guess that means I'm "inadequate".

(25,938 posts)This guy thought that displaying a weapon in public made others feel 'inadequate?' Project much? Seems to me that if anyone was feeling inadequate, it's the guy who feels it necessary to pack heat at all times.

If he had balls he would not need to carry a gun.

(16,064 posts)IMO people like this guy should take their gun love, their nra buddies and move to Afghanistan or Somalia, somewhere they would feel more comfortable and maybe even fit in. ....there is no place for this sort of bullshit in a free society.

Any how, he's lucky he's never seen any one shot.
Carrying a weapon like that in a park more likely than not just seems to make him look like he's showing off. Which is the wrong thing to do with a gun.
I have nothing against him having a gun, but that type of arrogance shows a lack of respect to his tool, and a lack of regard for others beyond himself.

(37,160 posts)They are inadequate for not knowing that you have "been around guns all (your) life and have never seen anyone shot" and that you "know the true value of defending my life and family" (unlike them, right?). For wondering if maybe they might have to deal with a mass shooter who looks a lot like you.
Lucky for you that such inadequate people were not also lawfully OCing, especially if they still felt threatened and yet felt justified to stand their ground.

(28,581 posts)If I see someone entering an area I am in and they have a gun, I am outta there.
If they aren't in uniform or displaying a badge, my first concern is about their mental stability.
And then I start to put as much distance between me and them as possible.

From now on, if a store or restaurant allows guns I am not going there. And I'm going to be bold enough to ask.
This is what they have done to us--"my right to carry a gun trumps your right to be in a public space without being confronted by strangers with guns."
Raine1967
(11,589 posts)and yet you are proudly carrying a gun in public? What the hell -- seriously -- what if other people in his presence actually HAD SEEN PEOPLE SHOT? They are inadequate because they are uncomfortable?
This is some fu**ed up garbage.
You right to own a gun ends when it infringes upon my self described right to life liberty and happiness.
I am not happy seeing open carry -- and I certainly don't feel liberated when open carry people are making it clear that that can take life can take life at any given moment.
It's the fuckin' opposite of "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" that was put forth in the Declaration of Independence.

(48,121 posts)Criminals who plan on doing something bad won't obey the open carry law and will conceal anyway until the moment they need it.
99% of gun owners are law abiding, just like other groups (Muslims come to mind) though some folks will use the few to spread fear of the many any chance they get.

(34,658 posts)Someone who has no criminal history can still have a nasty temper. If that person is unarmed, a public disagreement will be a war of words or gestures, or fists at worst. If that person is armed and he has a bad temper, he might use the gun in a moment of anger. There are far more people out there with anger issues than there are criminals. But if you have a hot temper and a gun... it could be a lethal combination.

If you want to carry a gun and protect people, become a cop! Oh, that's right. You tried and couldn't pass the psych eval.
