Riots in Sweden: Cars Burn in Fourth Night of Youth Violence

Youth in several Stockholm suburbs have rioted for four nights in a row, throwing stones at police and setting cars on fire. Leaders have appealed for calm, but the violence has spread to the southern city of Malmo.

1. I am really happy to see the various DU postings of this situation.

MSM seems to be missing it.
And that the riots are due to racism is not common knowledge, nor is the fact that Karl Rove and the PM of Sweden are buddies, politically speaking.

2. Mixing such very different cultures is not an easy thing

Racism, poverty and a real difference in life views has to make this rough.

I think for all the problems we have with race and immigration, I think we do alot better then many places on the globe. We have lots of room to improve, but we aren't alone in this problem.

I think in our country our most numerous immigrants are those from Mexico and South America. We speak different languages, but culturally we are not miles away. In Sweden I believe the immigrants are mostly Iraqi and Iranian, cultures that are very different.

Somehow the Swedes are going to have to find a way for these cultures to live together.
