thug rep. DesJarlais agrees to pay $500 fine on complaints involving relationships with patients

more republican family values on display

WASHINGTON — Republican Rep. Scott DesJarlais said this morning that the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners has hit him with $500 in fines and a reprimand for a complaint filed in 2012 that he slept with patients more than a decade ago.

DesJarlais, a Jasper physician, said the medical ethics board had largely absolved him of complaints that he said were politically motivated. He had faced the possibility of restrictions on his medical license or possible revocation of it.

The $500 fine is the same amount assessed against another doctor in 2012 for failing to pay her professional privilege taxes. At least two other doctors who admitted sexual misconduct with patients faced harsher penalties.

Last year, for example, the Board of Medical Examiners assessed a $2,000 fine against a Maryville doctor for engaging in a sexual affair with one patient and giving her medication without recording the reason. He also had to pay $2,000 to cover the cost of prosecution and was placed on a five-year probation.
