10 drugs that cost more than a car. Check out this one...

Acthar

This drug, once available for $50 a dose, now costs $28,000 for a 5-milliliter vial, according to an article last year in The New York Times. The drug, once used primarily to treat spasms in infants, is now marketed by Questcor as a treatment for multiple sclerosis, nephrotic syndrome and rheumatologic conditions

There are a number of other unrealisticallyxpensive drugs listed in that article as well. My question is "Why is that drug co able to change the cost of Acthar from $50 to $28,000 just because of what they are treating?

This is absolutely insane! I believe in companies covering their costs and scientific testing is expensive, but that doesn't even seem to apply to that drug!

After reading that article, I've decided that if I ever get diagnosed with something that requires that much money to preserve my life for a few months or maybe a year, I'm out here folks! Those few months simply aren't worth it.

because it's such an old drug, long off patent.

You'd think the insurance companies would mount a class action suit against these companies for this kind of robbery.

And that's what it is, robbery, the classic "Your money or your life" by a common brigand.

I don't know anything about cthar, but if it's such an old drug, why haven't others done a generic?

that they will call it quits when their illness costs get too high.

I guess the death panels are here only they have turned the tables on us. They get away with it and never have the finger pointed at them.

There are laws against profiteering in wars - why not in health care.

every once in a while. I think your question is a call for me to question my Senators & our President again. I doubt I'll get any response from the WH, but there's a box on my Sen's sites where you can request a response. I'll let you all know what they have to say. Since I'm in Ga. I'm really curious, because I can't view this as a left or right issue, but somehow the righties always seem to find a way to do that.
