More evidence that scandalmania is taking a toll on the party of Nixon

More evidence that scandalmania is taking a toll on the party of Nixon

"SNIP...................

But in the meantime, let's enjoy the party, because as the latest ABC/Washington Post survey shows ... the GOP isn't enjoying the fruits of its scandal-exposing labors (RVs, 5/16-19, ±3.5 percent):

If the election for the U.S. House of Representatives were being held today, would you vote for (the Democratic candidate) or (the Republican candidate) in your congressional district?

Democratic candidate: 48
Republican candidate: 40

Democrats enjoy a whopping 56-33 edge among moderates, and while they get just 20 percent of the conservative vote, that's more than double the 8 percent of the liberal vote obtained by Republicans. Republicans have a miniscule 1-point edge among independents—41 to 40—but in 2010, they carried independents by a whopping 56-37 margin.

Also, as Greg Sargent notes, the poll contains more evidence that conventional wisdom about gun politics is wrong: In both red and blue states, more voters say they they would vote against a candidate who opposed expanding background checks to gun shows and the internet than say they would vote against a candidate who supported expanded checks. A total of 35 percent say they'd rule out a candidate who was against expanding checks compared with 14 percent who say they'd rule out a candidate who is for such checks. That helps explain why Republicans have been so eager to have it both ways on the issue, voting against expanded checks while simultaneously claiming that they support them.

The best thing that could happen if for the teabaggers to pass articles of impeachment against Obama. That would vastly increase our chances of taking over the House in 2014. So let's hope Reince Priebus is serious about this.

"that's more than double the 8 percent of the liberal vote obtained by Republicans."

...would possibly vote for any Republican? I wonder if these are people who are just pretending to be liberals in order to toy with the polling, because the GOP's platform is antithesis to what liberalism is about. There is nothing in the GOP platform that has the interests in mind of the American Left. Nothing about preserving the environment. Nothing about tax fairness, marriage equality, women's rights, voting rights, drug decriminalization, or Wall Street reform. I understand being frustrated with Democrats, but why vote Republican if you're supposedly a liberal? It would make more sense to vote 3rd party than to support the GOP.

"registered Democrat" would have been better...there is still a number of conservative Dems, especially in the South and Appalachia.

Imagine that?

Those that don't have me on ignore, might recall my assessment of President Obama (and his team's) strategy to take back the House in 2014 ... it basically involves letting the gop be the gop and allowing people to see what the gop is all about.

It seems to be working!

Now, Democrats and Progressives and everyone on the Left ... Might I suggest we spend 62.8% of the effort we are currently using to "hold President Obama accountable" and "speaking truth to power" to get on board and talk to the plurality of independents and gop voters reflected in this survey?

GOTV 2014!!!

With gerrymandering and the Republican nature of less populous states, I'm not certain the 48-40 advantage will translate into Democratic Congress critters. I wish this news made me feel more optimistic. The need for 60-40 advantage influences the entire political spectrum, IMHO.

If the GOP has perfected anything, it's the science of gerrymandering house districts.

sat out a critical tenth year election. People should NEVER sit out an election where the year ends in a fucking zero, only bad things come out of that action.

People were sick of the Clinton scandals. Just one wolf cry after another.
I think a lot of people would love a scandal that they could watch like any other court TV soap opera. But, unless it will provide something worth watching, they don't care.
