"This American Life - Hot in my Backyard"...
Many examples of people (especially Republican Congress Critters) who know Climate Change is real, will tell you so in private, and then vote the opposite.
And there's a throw-away line or two in there about Climate Scientists who will say it's only a mild problem in public, then build Prepper retreats for themselves. Very, very important stuff: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/495/hot-in-my-backyard Heard about it, you guessed it, over at Climate Crocks: http://climatecrocks.com/2013/05/23/republican-reps-terror-in-the-climate-closet/ where it's generating a larger than usual discussion.

1. I listened to this when it was broadcast
Some infuriating things in there - not least of which you mention in the OP: repugs in Congress who know climate change is real, yet keep voting in line with the interests of their corporate puppetmasters.

2. Made this comment over at Climate Crocks many people liked:
The Fox/Limbaugh wing of the party operated so long unchallenged, that there are massive amounts of people whose minds have been corrupted, not but a week/month/or year of lies, but by decades of out-and-out lies.
Will that change? Yes – but now, as they say, it will be one funeral at a time. http://climatecrocks.com/2013/05/21/guest-post-same-old-gop-on-climate/comment-page-1/#comment-21964 In the 90s, when we could have shut down Limbaugh pronto, people at the top said "Ignore him and he'll go away. You're giving him the attention he craves" And I said "Mistake...Big Mistake". Times have changed. Now the problem is at Fox and, God love him, Jon Stewart seems to be making it his mission in life to shut down Bullshit Mountain. |

3. Yep
Even when OxyRush was just starting out, I recognized that his bloviations represented powerful interests and that he wasn't going away, even in the face of declining ratings or advertisers who bailed. The RW interests would prop up the bilious gasbag even if it had to come out of their pockets, valuable to their agenda as he is.

4. His big technique was empty chair debates....
Had, say Al Gore, called him out for a national debate on Prime Time....
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. |
