Another reason not to eat Papa John's....
The Daily Dot reported on Monday that the manager of the store confirmed the customers video is authentic, adding that the store had received more than 300 angry calls in response.
In the video, the unidentified customer states off-camera that he tipped the driver 21 percent before showing the phone logs confirming that the driver called again and let loose with a string of racial slurs, not knowing he was being recorded.
Thats the only requirement for being a n----r in Sanford, the driver tells a co-worker, while complaining about the tip. Yeah, they gave me five bucks there. Fine, outstanding African-American gentleman of the community.
Here's the video - warning: highly offensive language;

BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)I see people in a family of four tip the waitress $3.00 here in SoCal. It's shameful.
I tip, at minimum, 16% if the service was lousy {and that's only happened to me a few times over the years}, but I usually tip them a $20 dollar bill if under $100.00. More, if over.
cstanleytech
(28,471 posts)If the server is bad and or the person doesnt have more money to spend then 5 bucks is a very good tip imo.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)Five dollars might be a good tip on a ticket that's $25 or less (two people). But it's shameful if we, a family of five with a ticket for around $78.00, tip less than $20 dollars. It's just wrong because five people can leave a heck of a mess and need lots of attention all throughout.
But that's just our opinion.

(28,471 posts)not everyone has that much especially these days and especially those who live on a fixed income and they might have to save the money just to go out to eat once every 3 to 6 months.

(135,425 posts)And that's no matter how many pizzas he's carrying. Five bucks is probably an "eyes light up" moment.
Delivery isn't waiting on table--no one's taking orders, opening wine bottles, getting drinks, bringing dessert and coffee, and more tartare sauce and lemon slices, here.
The guy is ringing a doorbell and handing over some boxes. It's not the same as providing table service at a restaurant, and it isn't compensated in the same way, either.
Just Saying
(1,799 posts)Pizza delivery isn't the same as waiting tables and the norm is a couple of bucks and NOT 20% or whatever. I do tend to overtip a delivery guy assuming he's on time and I add more if he has to come upstairs or the weather is bad but that's just me.
Thegonagle
(806 posts)They're actually both pretty tough to be good at, and they're both compensated rather poorly. It took awhile longer to happen to drivers than servers, but most drivers at the big chains are now paid less than minimum wage in every state where tip credit wage is allowed. And if you thought that the addition of the "delivery charge" resulted in drivers making more money, think again.
Delivery is harder than it looks because you don't witness 95% of the work that goes into it. Driving your order--possibly along with 1-5 other orders depending how busy/understaffed--to your house/apartment/office/hospital/hotel room/workplace/wherever in an expedient manner isn't exactly a relaxing Sunday cruise.
And given how expensive it is to own, operate, and maintain a car these days, your good tips are appreciated when you "waiter on wheels" arrives.
No sympathy for the racist though! I've found that most black people, like most other people, tip just fine.
My average tip is just shy of $4 most days. And I thank you very much.
MADem
(135,425 posts)well. I also live really, REALLY close to the places from where I order, so I'm not contributing to wear and tear on anyone's vehicles.
Delivery isn't easy, I agree (I have experienced lousy delivery, where my stuff went somewhere else, where a key part of the meal was left behind, where the beverage was completely wrong) but waiting on tables--if I had to pick one job over another -- is a harder job. There are no 'seated respites' plugging the address into the GPS and driving to one's destination. Servers are on their feet for their entire shift, carrying trays of food, listening not just to one (irate) customer at the door, but every one around the table, eating their meal, with a demand, a gripe or an opinion. In lots of places, the tips are split with the busboys (and busgirls) who provide beverage backup as well as the usual table-cleaning.
Neither job is in the Top Ten Most Glamorous Jobs, but at my age, if I got flung back into the workforce with those two choices, I'd rather be delivering, even though it is a more DANGEROUS job (you're more likely to be robbed delivering a pizza to a door than a table) and there's the car maintenance thing. I don't have the stamina to wait table anymore (though I did do it for a few years as a kid).

(15,859 posts)Years ago I worked at a high-end restaurant at the beach. I spent an entire shift one night doting over a table of 12, I'll never forget it. Their tab was over $500 and they left no tip at all. Now THATS a reason to be pissed off! Those little pricks have no idea. And then to be racist on top of it?! Someone needs a slap!

(30,468 posts)Was your restaurant one that would NOT let you run after the party and ask "Excuse me, but was there something wrong
with the service"? That was SOP in the classier places I worked...I don't know if management knew about it,
but some of us did that.
bunnies
(15,859 posts)but it was actually the bartender that ran after them. They said they thought gratuity was included. Yeah. When theres a line on the check for tip and you leave it blank that means something. People dont understand what it means to work for three bucks an hour. And they were that table. You know. The ones who want something every time you walk by. Does anyone need anything? I'll have another glass of wine. Anyone else? No? Then you bring the glass and its... Oh, I'll have one too. I ended up with 50 bucks. Gee thanks.

(6,128 posts)Given the attitudes of its plutocratic scumbag founder and CEO, EVERYBODY should be boycotting Papa Johns!
And if you racists want more money, ASK SCHNATTER for it. He claims he's going to 'pass the cost of Obamacare' on to his customers. Big deal. He's been passing the costs of paying his employees a living wage to his customers for years, like a lot of people in the fast-food industry. Fast food workers are being exploited left right and center. Many of them have the common sense to organize a union. But it's the ones who get paid slave wages, and then blame it on the CUSTOMERS for not giving them a big enough tip, rather than the OWNER for not giving them a living wage that I never understand.

(402 posts)And i can tell you drivers tend to be rather racist, many stereotype African americans as non tippers which by the way isn't true i think they have some kind of bias making them think it is true, drivers often come back to the store and complain to one another on the very rare occasions they are not tipped and if the person happened to be non white they tend to use the persons race in their complaints.
A 5 dollar tip is above average for a delivery driver, anything Three bucks or more is reasonable depending on the order anything below 3 bucks is pathetic and rare.
I find it strange the driver called the customer, this makes me think they didn't answer their door or wasn't home and maybe this sickening rant had something to do with that ( no excuse of course) but when people don't answer the door it does make you a bit angry cause you lose money and often have to make the trip again to the same address although i have no sympathy for this racist jerk.
I often argue with my racist co workers when they rant about race and let them know it isn't true for me and maybe if they were nicer at the door they would be tipped, also throw in you cant dislike a entire group of people for the actions of one person and point out that when a white person doesn't tip them they don't go on a rant about white people so why would they for another race.

) said that in a way the civil rights movement did what it could in its day, but in some ways the old system was safer and easier. He said he grew up in the era where he KNEW whom his "enemies" were, and there were distinct rules about where one could be and could NOT be..whom it was safe to talk to, to touch etc. There was never any doubt about it. He said that he and his wife worried every day of their kids' lives that that they would come up against a racist cop who pretended to not be..He said that when he was young everyone in his neighborhood KNEW that the law was racist. Covert racists are just as dangerous..maybe more, since so many of them are good enough liars to get elected to public office.

I have.
I'm telling you - what the guy did or did not tip is irrelevant. He was called a n*gger because it is still socially acceptable to do so in America amongst a chunk of white Americans.
Guarantee you the delivery guy already has another job with someone who applauded his language.
