Note how the first two years of Reagan's term were characterized by job losses. We actually had a pretty bad recession then, which is almost totally forgotten. Not by me. I remember it quite clearly.

Another thing I remember that's almost totally lost to common knowledge is the wage and price controls instituted under Nixon in his first term. I recall it so well because I was caught in them. I also remember that economists of all stripes screamed bloody murder saying, when they're over, we'll have a huge burst of inflation. Guess what? We had a huge burst of inflation that gets blamed on Jimmy Carter, but which was in no small part a result of the idiotic wage and price controls.

day about how the States were doing well and would be hiring government workers. That should help the economy in general.
