Earliest Case of Child Abuse Discovered

A 2- to 3-year-old child from a Romano-Christian-period cemetery in Dakhleh Oasis, Egypt, shows evidence of physical child abuse, archaeologists have found. The child, who lived around 2,000 years ago, represents the earliest documented case of child abuse in the archaeological record, and the first case ever found in Egypt, researchers say.

The Dakhleh Oasis is one of seven oases in Egypt's Western Desert. The site has seen continuous human occupation since the Neolithic period, making it the focus of several archaeological investigations, said lead researcher Sandra Wheeler, a bioarchaeologist at the University of Central Florida. Moreover, the cemeteries in the oasis allow scientists to take a unique look at the beginnings of Christianity in Egypt.

in reality if every victim of child abuse became an abuser every kid would get abused.

I never identified with the assholes who abused me.It is an insult to victims of child abuse to perpetuate this myth. Far too many victims grow up and NEVER perpetuate child abuse.

I think the child who abuses kids as an adult might have had sociopath tendencies to begin with.

there has been no studies on the personality types between abused kids that follow them into adulthood considering sociopath, authoritarian or narcissistic personality types vs other personality types and which grow up to abuse kids yet.

This kind of broad-brush stereotyping is very unfair.

Good for you for standing up to speak out against it! I'm very sorry for your experience--and very glad that you're here to contribute your insight.

may have suffered from a congenital bone abnormality, which would have caused frequent fractures, so that maybe they were accidental, and not a result of abuse.

Other sources seem to connect this child's injuries to Osteogenesis Imperfecta. For those who may not be aware of it, OI-related injuries are frequently misidentified as child abuse when they are nothing of the sort. I'm more familiar with OI than I ever wanted to be, I was was born with it - one of my children and now my grandson also inherited it.

But roman attitudes about domination and the fact a roman father was permitted to murder his own children says some4thing about the sickness of the evil in patriarchal warrior dominator mindset.
