132. Where to start...
Thu May 30, 2013, 01:25 PM
May 2013

The Church, Steve Kilbey, Marty Wilson-Piper, Peter Koppes, Isidore, The Go-Betweens, Grant McLennan, Jack Frost. Mostly callaborations and solo material from members of The Church. There is a lot of material so I just make mention the band and members. The Go-Betweens have a lot of material but ceased when Grant Mclennan passed away. Robert Forster was the other main member and still make music. For the most part this was all considered Australian indie sharing company with outfits like the Triffids, among others. I do of course like a wide array of what's considered alternative some of which is quite mainstream and some of which remains obscure. It would take me some time to compile a list that would be comprehensive. Lately I have been finding a lot good music on Pandora and Youtube, M83 is one I am falling in love with. Mostly I'm attracted to music with deep lyrics, and music that is evocative, ethereal, appealing to nostalgia and wanderlust on a level that you won't often find on the airwaves.

My name I took from the opening line in Constant in Opal.

...as I have tried to do ever since I first heard either of them. In the case of Pat B, that would be from the time I first heard an AM radio turned on, in the late 50s.

Pat Boone is simply whacked, and has been a pioneering wingnut fundie his whole fuckin life, as far as I can tell. Plus, musically, he's unlistenable to my ears, always has been. Tutti Frutti, oh Rooty, indeed.

I've never cared for "Meat" (the "singer," not the protein), and that opinion was strongly reinforced by his endorsement of Willard Mitt, along with his horrific performance of the Star Spangled Banner at a Mitt event. Batshit Crazy Outta Hell.

I'm at least relieved somewhat by the fact that her Big Hit Song was it for her, outside of facelift commercials on teevee.

Far from lighting up my life, that tune almost made me wanna light my radio on fire whenever I heard it, way back when.

...since I actually like the first few records he, and especially his band, put out in their early years on Frank Zappa's Straight Records label. "Killer" and "School's Out" were great too.

One of my bands used to cover "Halo of Flies," so I definitely love the AC music.

While I know he gave $$$ to Bush the Lesser Idiot Son's Pretzeldential Campaigns, at least he hasn't been going around spouting Repug talking points on FUX News or wherever, as far as I know.

But, uhhhmmm yes, Alice, or, that is, Vincent, is a card carrying Repuke.

I don't follow the political affiliations of entertainers. I still like Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell album and have a few of Cooper's on vinyl. I enjoy Kurt Russel in several of his roles including The Thing, Escape from New York, and Big Trouble in Little China as well as watch Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods. If I enjoy the what the artist is doing in their field, I listen to/watch them and my tastes range from classical, to blues to 80s/90s industrial to 60s folk/rock with a whole bunch in-between.

But when it comes to literal chickenhawk shitbags like Nugent, it is impossible for me to separate the Political Asshole form the Shitty Songwriter/Singer/Guitarist.

And I still don't like Meat Loaf, or his Bat record. That's just a musical taste thing.

30. Trouble Comin' Every Day
Wed May 29, 2013, 12:44 PM
May 2013

Well I'm about to get UPSET
From watchin' my TV
Been checkin' out the news
Until my eyeballs fail to see
I mean they say that every day
Is just another rotten mess
And when it's gonna change, my friends
Is anybody's guess

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Wednesday I watched the riot...
I seen the cops out on the street
Watched 'em throwin' rocks and stuff
And chokin' in the heat
Listened to reports
About the whisky passin' 'round
Seen the smoke & fire
And the market burnin' down
Watched while everybody
On his street would take a turn
To stomp and smash and bash and crash
And slash and bust and burn

And I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Well you can cool it,
You can heat it...
'Cause, baby, I don't need it...
Take your TV tube and eat it
'N all that phony stuff on sports
'N all THOSE unconfirmed reports
You know I watched that rotten box
Until my head began to hurt
From checkin' out the way
The newsmen say they get the dirt
Before the guys on channel so-and-so
And further they assert
That any show they'll interrupt
To bring you news if it comes up
They say that if the place blows up
They'll be the first to tell
Because the boys they got downtown
Are workin' hard and doin' swell,
And if anybody gets the news
Before it hits the street,
They say that no one blabs it faster
Their coverage can't be beat

And if another woman driver
Gets machine-gunned from her seat
They'll send some joker with a brownie
And you'll see it all complete

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
No way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

Hey you know something people
I'm not black
But there's a whole lots a times
I wish I could say I'm not white

Well, I seen the fires burnin'
And the local people turnin'
On the merchants and the shops
Who used to sell their brooms and mops
And every other household item
Watched the mob just turn and bite 'em
And they say it served 'em right
Because a few of them are white,
And it's the same across the nation
Black & white discrimination
They're yellin' "You can't understand me!"
And all the other crap they hand me
In the papers and TV
'N all that mass stupidity
That seems to grow more every day
Each time you hear some nitwit say
He wants to go and do you in
Because the color of your skin
Just don't appeal to him
(No matter if it's black or white)
Because he's out for blood tonight
You know we gotta sit around at home
And watch this thing begin
But I bet there won't be many left
To see it really end
'Cause the fire in the street
Ain't like the fire in my heart
And in the eyes of all these people
Don't you know that this could start
On any street in any town
In any state if any clown
Decides that now's the time to fight
For some ideal he thinks is right
And if a million more agree
There ain't no great society
As it applies to you and me
Our country isn't free
And the law refuses to see
If all that you can ever be
Is just a lousy janitor
Unless your uncle owns a store
You know that five in every four
WON'T amount TO nothin' more
THAN watch the rats go across the floor
And make up songs about being poor

Blow your harmonica son!

"Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk" comes to mind.

There's an ugly little wasel bout three-foot nine
Face puffed up from cryin n lyin
Cause her sweet little hubbys
Suckin prong part time
(in the name of the lord)

Get a clue, little shrew
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Jesus thinks you're a jerk

Did he really choose tammy to do his work?
Robertson says that he's the one
Oh he sure is,
If armageddon
Is your idea of family fun,
An he's got some planned for you!
(now, tell me that aint true)

Now, what if jimbos slightly gay,
Will pat let jimbo get away?
Everything weve heard him say
Indicated that jim must pay,
(and it just might hurt a bit)
But keep that money rollin in,
Cause pat and naughty jimbo
Cant get enough of it

Perhaps it's their idea
Of an affirmative action plan
To give white trash a special break;
Well, they took those jeezo-bucks and ran
To the bank! to the bank! to the bank! to the bank!
And every night we can hear them thank
Their buddy, up above
For sending down his love
(while you all smell the glove)

Jim and pat should take a pole
(right up each saintly glory-hole),
With tar and feathers too --
Just like theyd love to do to you

(cause they think you are bad --
And they are very mad)

Cause some folks don't want prayer in school!

(wed need an ark to survive the drool
Of micro-publicans, raised on hate,
And jimbo-jimbo when they graduate)

Conviced they are the chosen ones --
And all their parents carry guns,
And hold them cards in the n.r.a.
(with their fingers on the triggers
When they kneel and pray)

With a ku-klux muu-muu
In the back of the truck,
If you aint born again,
They wanna mess you up, screamin:
No abortion, no-siree!
Lifes too precious, can't you see!
(what's that hangin from the neighbors tree?
Why, it looks like colored folks to me --
Would they do that...seriously? )

Imagine if you will
A multi-millionaire television evangelist,
Saved from korean combat duty by his father, a u.s. senator

Studied law --
But is not qualified to practice it

Father of a love child
Who, in adulthood, hosts the remnants
Of papas religious propaganda program

Claims not to be a faith healer,
But has, in the past,
Dealt stearnly with everything from hemorrhoids to hurricanes

Involved with funding for a secret war in central america
Claiming ronald reagan and oliver north as close friends

Involved in suspicous tax-avoidance schemes,
(under investigation for 16 months by the i.r.s.)

Claims to be a man of god;
Currenty seeking the united states presidency,
Hoping we will all follow him into --
The twilight zone

What if pat gets in the white house,
And suddenly --
The rights of certain people disappear
Mysteriously?

Now, wouldn't that sort of qualify
As an american tragedy?
(especially if he covers it up, sayin
Jesus told it to me!)

I hope we never see that day,
In the land of the free --
Or someday will we?
Will we?

And if you don't know by now,
The truth of what Im tellin you,
Then, surely I have failed somehow --

And jesus will think Im a jerk, just like you --
If you let those tv preachers
Make a monkey out of you!

I said:
Jesus will think you're a jerk
And it would be true!

There's an old rugged cross
In the land of cutton --
Its still burnin on somebodys lawn
And it still smells rotten

Jim and tammy!
Oh, baby!
You gotta go!
You really got to go!

Wed May 29, 2013, 01:56 PM

Whoever we are, wherever we're from, we shoulda noticed by now our behavior is dumb
And if our chances expect to improve it's gonna take a lot more than tryin' to remove the other race or the other whatever from the face of the planet altogether
They call it "The Earth" which is a dumb kinda name but they named it right 'cause we behave the same
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over, yes we are, dumb all over, near and far, dumb all over, black 'n white, people, we is not wrapped tight
And nerds on the left, nerds on the right
Religious fanatics on the air every night, sayin' the bible tells the story and makes the details sound real gory about what to do if the geeks over there don't believe in the book we got over here
You can't run a race without no feet
And pretty soon there won't be no street for dummies to jog on or doggies to dog on
Religious fanatics can make it be all gone
I mean it won't blow up and disappear, it'll just look ugly for a thousand years
You can't run a country by a book of religion
Not by a heap or a lump or a smidgeon of foolish rules of ancient date, designed to make you all feel great while you fold, spindle and mutilate those unbelievers from a neighbouring state
To arms, to arms
Hooray! That's great, two legs ain't bad
Unless there's a crate they ship the parts to mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (Get down)
Not his, not hers but what the hey
The good book says, "It's gotta be that way"
But their book says, "Revenge the crusades"
With whips 'n chains and hand grenades
Two arms, two arms
Have another and another
Our Cod says, "There ain't no other"
Our Cod says, "It's all ok"
Our god says "This is the way"
It says in the book, "Burn and destroy"
And repent and redeem and revenge and deploy and rumble thee forth to the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
'Cause they don't go for what's in the book and that makes 'em bad
So verily we must choppeth them up and stompeth them down
Or rent a nice French bomb to poof them out of existence while leaving their real estate just where we need it to use again for temples in which to praise our god, 'cause he can really take care of business
And when his humble TV servant with humble white hair and humble glasses and a nice brown suit and maybe a blonde wife who takes phone calls, tells us our god says it's ok to do this stuff, then we gotta do it
'Cause if we don't do it we ain't "Gwine up to hebbin"
Depending on which book you're using at the time
Can't use theirs, it don't work, it's all lies, gotta use mine
Ain't that right?
That's what they say
Every night, everyday
Hey, we can't really be dumb if we're just following god's orders
Well let's get serious, god knows what he's doin'
He wrote this book here and the book says, "He made us all to be just like him"
So, if we're dumb, then god is dumb and maybe even a little ugly on the side
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side

And if these words you do not heed, your pocket book just kinda might recede
When some man comes along and claims a godly need
He will clean you out right through your tweed
That's right, you asked for it, remember there is a big difference between kneeling down and bending over
He's got twenty million dollars in his Heavenly Bank Account
All from those chumps who was born again, oh yeah, oh yeah
He's got seven limousines and a private plane
All for the use of his special friends, oh yeah, oh yeah
He's got thousand-dollar suits and a Wembley Tie
Girls love to stroke it while he's on the phone, oh yeah, oh yeah
At the House of Representatives he's a groovy guy
When he gives thanks he is not alone

He is dealin', he is really dealin', IRS can't determine where the hook is
It is easy with the bible to pretend that you're in Show Biz (And the one and the two and the...)
They won't get him, they will never get him for the naughty stuff that he did
It is best in cases like this to pretend that you are stupid

He's got Presidential help all along the way
He says the grace while the lawyers chew, oh yeah, they sure do
And the Governors agree to say: "He's a lovely man"
He makes it easier for them to screw all of you, yes, that's true
'Cause he helps put the fear of god in the common man
Snatchin' up money everywhere he can, oh yeah, oh yeah
He's got twenty million dollars in his Heavenly Bank Account
You ain't got nothin', people
You ain't got nothin', people
You ain't got nothin', people
Thank the man, oh yeah
As we end another broadcast today let me say that "You ain't got nothin' and he's got it all"
And your miserable self is against the wall
The only thing you have not tried, is the sport of chumps, that's suicide

And I hear the group --despite having disbanded 43 years ago -- is still selling pretty well today.

the Dixie Chicks? How long have they been split up?

What they should o is issue a once yearly list of musical performers that they approve of, the list would be much shorter ( Andy Williams, Lawrence Welk,and.......... Chuck Norris! Tedd Nugent!

Cuz even the straight (drugs not sex) musicians still have outspoken liberal viewpoints.

Who should we put on our blacklists?

Let's see...

Ted Nugent
Lee Greenwood
Billy Ray Cyrus
Meat Loaf
Kid Rock
Megadeth
Hank Williams
Pat Boone
Beach Boys

Edit: Kid Rock seems to have undergone a bout of sanity from time to time, even though he's pretty right wing, so he's off the list.
In his place, I'm adding the Beach Boys - they have a right-wing streak!

"Artists should be flattered not outraged when Republican Politicians want to use their music"..

In a way that's correct. It would be flattering to write something that is so far over the heads of conservatives that they actually think the song means the complete opposite of what it does..

And I can't believe poor Roger Waters didn't make the list. The guy has been storming all over the world for the last 3 years with his anti-war, anti-corporation, Wall show.

She may be a Republican, but a few of her songs were morally bankrupt (by RW standards).

"Dear Mr. President"

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?

Last I checked, Psy raps in Korean - a very rare language in North America.

I dunno...but if I had to pick a band conservatives shouldn't support, NOFX (the band who went on Letterman during the 43 maladministration and sang "We all know George Bush is an imbecile / he loves Dick but he hates homosexuals / we're all tired of the embarrassment / the whole world wants us to get a better president&quot or System of a Down. I know SOAD no longer plays and NOFX may not either...but when's the last time Madonna dropped an album?
