Tea Party groups suing IRS.

You KNOW it was bound to happen.

Tea Party groups file harassment suit against IRS after agency targeted political ties

The American Center for Law and Justice has announced a federal lawsuit today against the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of 25 conservative groups who were targeted and harassed by the tax agency.

Jay Sekulow, the center’s chief counsel, said the lawsuit will show the IRS abuses went far above a couple “rogue agents," as the Obama administration claims.

He has 15 IRS letters harassing conservative groups that were stamped with the signature of Lois Lerner, the IRS boss in charge of the tax-exempt office at the center of the scandal.

Not one of these groups actually qualifies for the status sought, under the applicable statute....

With all the bad PR this has gotten, and the amount of mud slinging that will ocupy the press for months and months if the lawsuits go forward
I would not be surprised at a settlement...one of the usual " no charges admitted by IRS..complete confidentiality" etc etc.

I do not think the thing is likely to survive preliminary skirmishings and reach the stage of trial, in fact.

That's the so called Christian network that uses the fear of death and preys on the weakness of people to makes millions of dollars every day. He heads the ACLJ. American Center for Law and Justice. It was founded by Pat Robertson. http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/american-center-law-justice Jay Sekulow will lose big time. He is opening a can of worms he doesn't have a clue about. Mixing politics and religion? Can anyone say neofascist theocracy?

Since it seems most if not all of those organizations don't meet the definition to qualify for tax exempt status, let them sue. Then the IRS' attorneys can ask for whatever they want during the discovery process, and I'll bet those organizations won't want to provide most of what is mentioned.

What are the penalties for claiming non profit when you aren't?
