If you had to guess, how do you think Michelle Bachmann became convinced

that she should not run again? Because she had already run some campaign ads for 2014. So this is a new plan for her.

I think the GOP wanted to get rid of her so bad, for all the fundraising dollars she raised for Democrats with her tirades, that they visited her and warned her she would lose all her fame if she lost the next congressional election. That her star would fade if she ran again and lost. And once she is gone they will try to marginalize her. We are seeing the attempt of Republicans to get back control of their party.

What is your guess?

Trial date set in Iowa court case against Michele Bachmann

A trial date has been set in an Iowa lawsuit alleging that Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., stole and misused an e-mail distribution list maintained by an Iowa home school group during her failed 2012 presidential campaign.

This morning, the seven-day trial in Heki v. Bachmann was scheduled for May 14, 2014, court records show.

Also this morning, Bachmann, a Minnesota congresswoman, announced she will not seek re-election in 2014. She said in a videotaped message that “this decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff.” She has maintained she did nothing wrong.

A 12-page Polk County lawsuit filed last July alleges that two Iowans, Barbara and Richard Heki, suffered “severe emotional distress and loss of current and future business opportunities” after two unapproved emails were sent from the Bachmann for President campaign to members of the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators (NICHE).

Her internal polls said she was done and her publisher said bail.

Now she cashes in, ala Palin.

In her tiny mind, uptight Minnesota voters will recoil at equal marriage being passed in their state, and come out in droves to support her over a man who barely won his Senate seat while Barack Obama was on the top of the ballot. She has to figure that his base will not be nearly as enthused in 2014, and she knows she can get past the ethics scandals if she waits until the last minute to file for the US Senate seat.

With her heavy warchest of campaign contributions, she's got to think it's possible.

because they knew she'd have a tough time winning in 2014 - with all the investigating going on it's likely the money would dry up and Jim Graves would eat her lunch. Also, even though the 6th District is the attic where Minnesota keeps its political crazy aunts, I think that even those people are tired of having a crazy aunt in the attic.

It seems strange that she would announce now. I think there may be a scandal out there we haven't heard about yet.

I think it's part of a plea deal; if she doesn't run again, the LEA leading the investigation won't charge her with some specific crime. The trial date of next year, during her campaign, and the newspaper's reporting of it squeezed her into going public this morning

about her great success in her bill to repeal Obama care passing the House. Her decision appears to have been sudden.

She's going to go through the formality of this"investigation" and she has almost no chance of winning another election, so why bother?

Personally, I find the fact that there was a sufficient concentration of staggering stupidity to elect her four times to be far more worrying then whether or not she runs.

Steve Schmidt was certainly pleased with the news on LOD, if that's any indication.
