Motorola's Moto X phone to be made in the U.S.

Motorola's Moto X phone to be made in the U.S.

Rancho Palos Verdes, California (CNN) -- Motorola says it will produce the first smartphone manufactured in the United States.

Called Moto X, the phone will be assembled at a 500,000-square-foot plant near Fort Worth, Texas, that will employ about 2,000 people. The majority of smartphones today are manufactured in Asia.

The Moto X is scheduled to hit the market by the end of the year. It's the first new phone to be designed entirely under the ownership of Google, which bought Motorola Mobility last year.

Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola Mobility, announced the news Wednesday at the D11 tech conference being hosted by AllThingsD, the tech-news site.

The phone is packed with new features that can anticipate users' needs such as "when to fire up the camera," Woodside said. For example, sensors in the phone will let it know when it's being pulled out of someone's pocket, he said.

Motorola to Open Manufacturing Facility in Fort Worth

Motorola is opening a Fort Worth manufacturing facility that will create 2,000 new jobs this summer and produce the first smartphone ever assembled in the U.S.

The facility is right off Interstate 35 at Alliance Texas Business Park in North Fort Worth.

The 500,000-square-foot facility will soon be filled with workers assembling Motorola’s new smartphone, the Moto X.

Cities across the country have been trying to land the deal, but a former Nokia facility in North Fort Worth was Motorola's pick for the best home.

“It’s a custom building, designed for building cell phones,” said Mark Randall, Motorola senior vice president of supply chain and operations.

It will be interesting to see what those terms are, because, as we all know, Texas won't be Red for very much longer. Probably 10, 20 year contractual agreements of no taxes and wavers from minimum wages.

Something that has been lacking for the past 20 years, but it finally getting the well deserved upgrades. However, the Texas Transportation Board is making the Loop 820 improvements toll roads. So, much for our gas taxes going to the highway fund!

With the Alliance Airport in North Fort Worth I believe there will be more manufacturing jobs locating here.

That construction is nuts! I was coming back to Arlington from Denton and took 35W. I was planning on getting on 820 then hitting 30, but got confused in the construction and ended up on 183. Not a big deal, just amusing.

I hope you're doing well MagickMuffin!

I traverse mostly 121 to get around to other highways. Poor neglected 820, that hasn't been expanded to accomodate the growth here. Of course HEB, Arlington, seems to have their highway systems approved all the time.

That is a crazy route you took! I got confused just reading it, how come you didn't stay on 30 to Arlington? I will admit that the construction all over the city is getting me more confused and I've lived here all my life

Kay Granger is a piss poor representative for our region. However, she knows where to fund projects, i.e. the Fort Worth Trinity development project, which her dear son is on the committee.

I am doing very well and hope you are as well

I got on 820 and was going to stay on that to 30 and ended up on 183 instead. Oh well.

Oh Arlington has it's own issues with highways. I'm scared about whenever they finally get around to fixing the 30 & 360 interchange.

The only reason Arlington got those new bridges over 30 and such is because of the Cowboys. Now, I wish my shit for city council person would push to get Abram redone. That street is an embarrassment of potholes and patches. Straight up embarrassment to the city. Arlington announced not too long ago they were releasing emergency funds to start hitting the city backlog of street repairs.

As for piss poor representation....mine is Joe Barton.

for both of our piss poor representatives. I wish we had someone as fun loving as Lon Burman, however, he's probably all the wiser to keep representing on the State level.

Sheesh, where I live it seems as though one of our major thoroughfare street keeps being neglected and it's like driving a boat on it. It receives a lot of traffic. Funny thing is back in the 90's we had a bond election which included if we voted for more police personel and vehicles we would get street repairs. The only streets getting repaired are the ones that don't receive a lot of traffic.

Also we have a lot of fracking going on in the city, and now the roads are eroding even faster!
