I am from Newfoundland. What an amazing place, with amazing people. I grew up in St. John's but we summer vacationed in Ferryland. If you Google 9/11 and Newfoundland, you will see all the good things my people did. The planes landed there and people were stranded. Everyone rose to the occasion. Great place to visit. More bars per square mile than any other place in North America!

There were hundreds of thousands of people left stranded because of 9/11.

The same thing happened because of COVID 19. My son’s half sister was visiting in Portugal but the Mexican Embassy managed to get an airplane to fly Mexican citizens back home.

The cyclist got stuck in South America and the Dutch government chartered a plane to take a bunch of people back to the Netherlands.. Quite dramatic. Don't make the plane? get stuck in another country..It got a bit dicy as the locals thought that the Europeans were spreading the virus... uff..

But it was a tremendous kindness actually Many tremendous kindnesses.

I rode on the Caribou reefer from Gloucester to Ramea one summer with a crew of Newfoundlanders. They sure have some colorful terms for types of poker games.

We've been to Canada several times on vacation, lived in Alaska, and traveled to western Canada and the Yukon north of Scagway. We had a trip planned to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward when Covid hit, but we are hoping to renew a similar trip in the next couple of years, hopefully!

my one visit there, I found the people to be reserved, but like you said, helpful. I vacationed in Nova Scotia in that one instance, but due to where I started, I travelled across the expanse of NewFoundland, a truly massive province, took a day and a half to cross it.

She was a Newfoundlander. A Newfoundland singer did a song about her. She hitchhiked and disappeared. Seriously look up the song, maybe on YouTube? We have such great and talented singers. Glad you made it through okay. Most people there are salt of the earth.

I still remember the club. When you first entered, there were slot machines. George was the bartender. He always put cherries in my Coke. The tables had candles inside colored glass, and each one had a plastic fishnet looking covering!!! Not sure if you experienced that stuff, but it was cool. I was probably there around '72.

An Enormous Hunk of Ice Gets Stuck in Iceberg Alley

Tourists gawk at the glorious iceberg that appeared in Ferryland, Canada. The mayor remains unimpressed.
