My wife and I are working out plans to start our own business and 1- we are FAR from wealthy and 2- Do not expect to have great wealth because of it.
But it has nothing to do with govt. regulation, and everything to do with our plans. We want to be able to make a decent livable wage, one which the gigantic businesses are simply not providing and we want to try and make sure our daughter is able to go to college without bankrupting her or us.
So if beck is scared of that, then ya done good.

16. Beck said some REALLY interesting things (!)
Sat Jun 1, 2013, 03:56 PM
Jun 2013

"What balances wealth out? Giving people the opportunity to start their own business. Giving the entrepreneur a chance to start their own business, but because of this government standing in the way--through regulation and everything else--only the rich can play in that territory, and so you are destined to be a serf."

1. "What balances wealth out?"

It's good to see that Beck understands that wealth creates inequality, and requires balance. Bravo.

2. "Giving people a chance to start their own business"

Beck admits here that opportunity doesn't come from the wealthy down, it comes from the people UP.

3. "Giving the entrepreneur a chance to start their own business"

Oops, last comment was too populist, better rephrase...

4. "but because of this government standing in the way--through regulation and everything else"

The Government is standing in the way? The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is the largest single financial backer for the nation's small businesses with a portfolio of venture capital, business loans & loan guarantees, and disaster loans worth about $60 billion.

One of the thing the government regulates is monopolization of a market. Try starting a new business in a environment grown without that protection, Beck.

5. "only the rich can play in that territory, and so you are destined to be a serf"

Does Beck not see himself as wealthy? Does Beck think of himself as one of the huddled masses yearning to breathe free? He is one of the uber wealthy, represents the interests of the uber wealthy, and has revealed the plan of the uber wealthy. Thinking about huddled masses, Beck sees them yearning only to profit freely, and has an answer for them delivered as a warning: ""only the rich can play in that territory, and so you are destined to be a serf"

1. "What balances wealth out?"
Time changes the playing field. The great railroad fortunes of the Vanderbilts declined somewhat when the car became popular. Airlines will disappear when gas is unaffordable unless business decides to find some new fuel.

2. "Giving people a chance to start their own business" and
3. "Giving the entrepreneur a chance to start their own business"
Sorry, Mr. Beck, but read the history of the 19th century magnates and how they made their fortunes. The one thing J.D. Rockefeller, to cite one example, did not want or encourage was giving others in the oil business the chance to start their own enterprises. Rockefeller did everything he could to consolidate the oil industry, to organize it neatly, to rid it of competition. Same for AT&T for a long time. And now big business colludes. We have a smattering of different brand names but the companies are not really in competition when it comes to the important things like setting product standards. In some cases, products sold under different brands are made by the same people in the same factories. And the buy-outs and immense capital of most of our multinational companies exclude small competitors as soon as they start their businesses.
The business of Walmart is not to allow other businesses to start or succeed. The business of Walmart is to undercut any small whippersnapper who decides to try to compete. Walmart is in there -- bigger parking lot, stock focused to cut out worthy competition, underpricing. And so it has been since Vanderbilt squeezed out his competitors from the ferry and railroad markets.

4. "but because of this government standing in the way--through regulation and everything else"
This government -- bought by the multinational corporations. Makes no difference which party is in control, the multinational corporations write or at least edit and approve legislation and regulations. The regulations help stifle competition, but that is the way big business wants it to be. Think of the regulations that define "organic" products. They are unreasonably strict, thus preventing organic farmers from labeling and selling their products for what they are: organic. Big agriculture at work making sure that you can't tell which products are just a mass of chemicals and which are real food. You have to tell from the taste.

5. "only the rich can play in that territory, and so you are destined to be a serf"
True. And its big business that makes certain that is the case.

It's a shame that Glenn Beck does not see a little further to the men pulling the strings of the puppets in government. Labor used to have a voice, but the export of our manufacturing jobs to China by big business insures that labor's power to at least balance out the multinationals is weak, nearly non-existent.

Glenn Beck needs to wake up. And if he did, he would recognize that the real threat to the US is the fact that any morning now we could wake up and discover that we ordinary folks including his viewers can no longer afford the imports from China and elsewhere and are left with no industry, no jobs and a lot of destitute and hungry people.

By the way, have you seen what is happening in the gold markets recently?

http://www.kitco.com/charts/livegold.html

The trend over the past year has been downward. Poor Glenn Beck. I wonder how many of his viewers still believe what he says.

woe (n.) Look up woe at Dictionary.com
Old English wa, a common exclamation of lament in many languages (cf. Latin væ, Greek oa, German weh, Lettish wai, Old Irish fe, Welsh gwae, Armenian vay). The noun is attested from late 12c., from the interjection.

Not a Hebrew word as far as I can tell. Not Aramaic. Beck takes the English translation of the Bible as though it were the original text. What a crazy guy.

Do you really think I thought He might have been Jewish?

Shock!

We can't have that.

Because if that were true, since Jesus is God's son, God would have to have been and still MIGHT BE Jewish.

Christians are supposed to convert Jews to Christianity, and if God is Jewish, then He can't be Christian, so are Christians supposed to convert God?

Oh, dear. I'm so confused. Now you've really started something.

I think I had better go back to bed and start over again.

I don't get it.

I've never listened to him before and I don't get how he became such a big deal. There was no warmth in his voice, no charisma. Nothing grabbed at me and made me want to continue listening. And it's not even his views-there have been other conservatives on talk radio and such that, even though I in no way agreed with them I still listened. They were good at their job and grabbed my attention.

Have you ever had a glass of milk with your cookies that just sat too long? You know, you dunk your Oreos in the milk and then get called away to do something? When you finally make it back to the milk you take a swig and it's blech-too warm and filled with slimy chunky sludge. That's what his voice reminded me of-slimy, chunky sludge in a glass of too warm milk.

Your article was absolutely stunning and spot on. But, sorry, I can't click and listen to this insane man. Did he read it in it's entirety? If so, that's a great big score. Your words were read by the kook to his little koolings and maybe, just maybe, someone miraculously comprehended your message. If your words jerked even one person awake, then hallelujah!

When your article was posted here the other day by someone (sorry I can't remember who it was), it was not apparent who had written it. But when I read the first paragraph, I knew it was you. I bet she is a little dumpling now!

Wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. He only read one paragraph, of course (boo!), and it was only about 3 minutes long. I sure hope his listeners figured out how to find Will's article and read it for themselves. Of course, he gave few clues how to find it. My blood isn't boiling, so you was right. Not as bad as he used to be, but still not going to listen to him. Do we have anyone brave enough to go link the kooklings to Will's article? I'm gutless when it comes to communicating with that bunch.

I heard there is a gated community outside of DC where only extremely wealthy people, lobbyists and defense industry folks, live. My understanding is that it's generally well hidden, even though it is impossible to truly hide an enclave like that.

It doesn't surprise me that beck feels threatened. When people are homeless and starving, they don't have much to lose.

At least a few years ago, there was a website where you could enter your own name into an app and a long Beck rant would focus on you specifically. I still have mine around here somewhere. Must've watched it a dozen times.

If anybody can find that website and share it with others, it would be a treat. Beck rants and raves and calls you every terrible creature in the book; writes your very own name on a blackboard proving you're a satanic lunatic. It's funny!

I actually wrote Beck a snarky email one time and he started sending me all sorts of thinly veiled threats. Wouldn't stop until I said I was going to the AG with it.
