What an awful decade, indeed. My husband had just returned from Vietnam a few days before.

I was asleep and my mom came in my room for some reason. She was crying quietly. She didn't mean to wake me but she did, and I asked her if Kennedy won, and them she told me. I was a little kid but I will never forget that moment. It's making me sad all over. My sister had just seen him in person giving a speech at a local college.

He was finishing up his "service to his country" over at Ft. Dix, NJ, and it was a weekend, so he was home.

Bobby and MLK were killed when I was 9. Think twice before you label someone a bitter, hopeless cynic.
