There has been a recent flurry of news reports over the NSA collection of telecommunications metadata (what numbers called what other numbers and when.) This has been public knowledge since 2006. Why do you think it is just now an issue?

Prior there were only anonymous leakers or whistleblowers with only their word.

Now I can point to documentation. This is why the EFF has been pursuing FOIA info even if they believe these things go on. In order to accuse someone you need concrete proof.

that is what the government does whe people leak stuff.
