I think we need a lot more to agree with us to make a real difference, and I ain't seeing that.
At least not yet.

(9,033 posts)gotta start somewhere.
But as some think maybe things have to get much worse. My only consolation (a small one) is that the conservative side is overwhelmingly turning non-true believers off, especially the young. So if there is a revolution / major upheaval / whatever, maybe the unaffiliated middle will side with us.
A slim hope.

(20,166 posts)I'm thinking more and more that time's run out. And too many of us are distracted by all the weapons of mass distraction parading before us on Lucifer's Dream Box (what comedian Bill Hicks called TV).

(53,661 posts)The latest on the Stuebenville rape crew you posted, and some similar cases. I wrote on some threads that I was not going to respond instead of my initial draft before I posted. Because it might disturb people.
Haha, you have some friends, too, for speaking out. I know the vast majority who have me on Ignore, as I informed them we would not have to talk again. The number has stayed constant. I don't care about it.
As Skinner says, we have the power to choose our experience at DU and I'm exercising my rights without shame. Anyone who puts others down for using it is childish. Skinner says he has some members on Ignore, too.
Why put up with disrespect or ignorance in online life that you wouldn't put up with in real life?
See you later, timdog.

(6,151 posts)I recommend this week's Bill Moyers show. His guest was an economist and author Richard (sorry the last name escapes me at the moment) *** who wrote Democracy at work. The latter's married to a psychiatrist and thinks the current period of relative stasis won't last. Eventually the pent-up rage will explode. Unless the country wises up and recovers from its collective Stockholm Syndrome.
It was a very illuminating discussion, as always for that show. Anyone who considers Moyers an alarmist or radical is dumb as a teabagger. I listen to him to calm down w/o losing hope.

Is that the one? I'll give it a listen tomorrow if it is. There aren't any details with it, so I don't know if the man you mentioned is in it...

Notwithstanding viscous campaigns against opponents, Watergate, "dirty tricks" and all, I just don't hate Nixon anymore...
He did finally end the Vietnam War, which LBJ was mostly responsible for, in spite of JFK's wish to end U.S. involvement and bring the troops home (right before he was assassinated)
They called Vietnam "Nixon's War", and he did keep us involved in that terrible mess for several years, but it was Lyndon Baines Johnson who reversed John F. Kennedy's decision to pull out of Vietnam in November of 1963, right before he was killed, so really, Vietnam was mostly "LBJ's War"
LBJ did some good things too...for example..The Civil Rights Act, and "The Great Society" programs.
Nixon normalized relations with China, and his visit to that country ended 25 years of separation between the two sides, so he did some good too.
I'm no Nixon lover; I just don't hate the guy anymore.
I say, fuck Reagan, fuck Bush, fuck LBJ.
Pity Nixon.

Nixon tried and was caught with his ear to the door and bu$h just reinforced the Reagan policies and reinstated that which Clinton stemmed.
