after all, if Rand and Ron and all their non-democratic fans want to go back to the original intent of everything
then let's abolish the 22nd amendment and re-elect President Obama in 2016,20,24,28,32,36,40,etc.
After all, the founding fathers never intended to have 2 terms.
That was just to stop another FDR
I didn't hear Tommy Jefferson say a President couldn't be unlimited.
and if the constitution is a living breathing document, then let's reinterpret the 2nd and get rid of all
guns and bullets from private individuals.
The Paulites can't have it both ways.

(7,720 posts)will work to reinterpret the 22nd amendment so President Obama can run for re-election? Wgat argument can be made to the USSC?

(34,845 posts)That's the tenor of some of these arguments. We are operating in the here-and-now and here-and-now is where we should base our decisions.
Our society is beyond the wildest imaginations of our 18th century forebears so I get tired of hearing references to them, too.
You're right, the Constitution is not set in stone. It has never been set in stone.

Under Citizens United, what do we think we would get with such a gullible populace?

Because of the pesky little fact that the original intent of the constitution meant that only white property owners were allowed to vote and slavery was legal.
edit:
Meant to say white male property owners cause you know the founding fathers knew better then to give the vote to those emotional women-folk

(6,785 posts)The 22nd was passed and ratified by the states as was laid out in the constitution. The constitution specifically lays out how it's to be changed, and the 22nd is well within it. Passed and ratified by the states.
One day you'll manage to get through a thread without referencing either of the Pauls.

(620 posts)Edited to modify subject line, and to add this, which is on all your posts:
As Abraham Lincoln stated,We could not secure the good we did secure if we grasped for more.Lincoln-FDR-LBJ-Carter-Obama. 5 best of all time.LBJ said-Any jackass can kick down a barn but it takes a good carpenter to build one.Hillary45 to continue the President Obama agenda for 8 more years. Michelle Obama/John Schlossberg in 2024
There is some sort of contradictory message in all this.

I we have the right to life and liberty it would be hard to guarantee either without giving us the ability to protect the those we hold dear.
