Ann Coulter, CPAC It Girl: "All Pretty Girls are Right-Wingers"

http://gawker.com/5884090/ann-coulter-cpac-it-girl-all-pretty-girls-are-right+wingers?utm_source=Gawker+Newsletter&utm_campaign=4d273a8fbe-UA-142218-2&utm_medium=email

WASHINGTON, D.C.— There must be some kind of perfect rallying cry for a giant ballroom full of conservative Americans, but it'll take a careful formula and a lot of practice to find it.

It requires, I think, some balance of celebrating American Exceptionalism (a phrase I've heard so many times in a day and a half here, it's already lost any meaning it could have had to begin with) and some balance of invoking Ronald Reagan, who on this turf is known as The Greatest Human To Have Ever Breathed On Earth.

But there is also a very straightforward route, and it's one that Ann Coulter, who took the stage in a black mini skirt and calf-high boots at CPAC this afternoon, is very, very good at: Troll on the liberals, and go for the cheap laughs.

At the seemingly interminable conservative dating panel yesterday, a young man asked the speaker, a professional dating coach named Wayne Elise, why right-wingers had such a difficult time with humor: "How can we find a legitimately funny conservative person?" he wondered.

Conservatives Big on Fear, Brain Study Finds
Are people born conservative?
Published on April 19, 2011 by Nigel Barber, Ph.D. in The Human Beast

Peering inside the brain with MRI scans, researchers at University College London found that self-described conservative students had a larger amygdala than liberals. The amygdala is an almond-shaped structure deep in the brain that is active during states of fear and anxiety. Liberals had more gray matter at least in the anterior cingulate cortex, a region of the brain that helps people cope with complexity.

The results are not that surprising as they fit in with conclusions from other studies. Just a year ago, researchers from Harvard and UCLA San Diego reported finding a "liberal" gene. This gene had a tiny effect, however, and worked only for adolescents having many friends. The results also mesh with psychological studies on conflict monitoring.

Comparing which women are the hottest looking? Really? Now we're posting babefests just to show the GOP they're wrong? I mean I'm not saying there's anything wrong with admiring hot babes, but that's what porn sites, swimsuit sites and Maxim, etc. is for. In a political context that's just outright demeaning to liberal women to challenge the GOP argument along the lines of "well our women are hotter!" It's also insulting to all of America that they think we should be swayed by a woman's looks instead of her brains and arguments.

Essentially... the GOP is moving this away from the validity of people's arguments to an argument over women's looks. And we are playing right to their prejudices. We're starting to respond to this by letting the GOP call the dance steps.

Instead we should be telling them to fuck off and force the argument back to "our men and women are SMARTER".

Let the looks contests stay on maxim.com, the porno sites and whatnot... in politics this is outright insulting to women and everyone who is involved in politics.

Looks do not matter.
Brains and compassion matter.
Derail their message.

She looks like a blond skeleton in a black cocktail dress. Go eat a few cheeseburgers Ann.

I recently read someone's comment that put republican women in 3 categories- evil, crazy and Stepford wives. Very astute observation. The Stepford wife class (By far the most numerous I would expect) kill themselves to avoid aging gracefully. Republican women know they are second class people- valued only as others see them. Either the Bible or their upbringing instills that in them. And many of them are married to rich guys who pay for them to get work done.

Speaking as a pig myself, I have no objections at all to women keeping themselves hot. But I also see past the candy coating, and Republican women usually become ugly to me once they open their mouths.

Conservatives can't do satire because it takes intelligence and thought. They can only do "mean spirited".

And Anne? I don't care if the woman had the looks of Aishwarya Rai, the breasts of Christine Hendricks and the ass of Jenna Von Oy . . . she starts spouting that Free Trade is great, rich people's taxes need to be lowered and all Democrats are communists . . . INSTANTLY UGLY AS FUCK.

Compassion is sexy. Caring is a turn on. The ability to laugh is a plus. Get back behind your desk, Anne, and continue to shill for some Koch; it's what you do best.

First, the similarity between the CPAC logo and Obama's reelection campaign's logo. You would think CPAC would have done something a little more original, oh wait they're RW conservatives without an original thought in their puny little brains.

Second, Ms. Coulter epitomizes the joke about someone being so thin, if they turned sideways they would disappear. There is not a bit of muscle or fat on that woman. She is all skin, bone and hair. She is very distrubing to look at, aside from all the other reasons.

That's all, my 2 cents.

Watch some of the clips coming out of CPAC.

I noticed one of Romney at a microphone where he was surrounded by a dozen attractive young women. Hardly a man in sight.

Packaged, choreographed advertising to appeal to the youth. A GOP party that realizes a base comprised of mainly old, white, male, Southerners. They know they are dying.

Within the next decade I expect a major "ramped up" appeal to youth in an effort to energize their party. The problem is that the demographics indicate it is youth that is suffering the most from the calamity that the Bush years brought. Their single hope is that youth are often the most impressionable as they are still going through the process of formulating their political ideaology.

To answer that a bit. I know a number of comedians and comedy writers. Most (but not all) of them are Jewish or at least half-Jewish. Most of them really suffered when they were kids -- from bullies who were bigger and meaner than they were. Most of them are realistic. Most of them are Democrats.

A lot of the comedians and comic writers I know are realistic to the point of depression. Without exception, they are extremely intelligent. Humor is the way they cope with life. Jokes can disarm strangers and make communication easier. Comedians use them to bridge the gap between their own great intelligence and the limited understanding of others.

The comedians I know laugh at themselves even more than they laugh at others. They ridicule themselves first, and only after they finish roasting themselves do they start on others.

In fact, not all of them, but most of the comedians I know or have known are or were, beneath the facade, extraordinarily compassionate people. They may never admit it, but they are. They don't need to be told to walk in someone else's shoes for a day. The minute they meet you, they are trying on your shoes. That's where the jokes come from -- wearing other people's too big or too small shoes.

Do you know any Republicans with those personality traits? Neither do I.

While I am at it, fundamentalist Christianity is, in my opinion, completely incompatible with a really healthy sense of humor.

I was raised by true Christians. They could be very humble and very funny. We laughed a lot. And lots of Christians, even fundamentalist Christians, can tell stories and jokes effectively.

But generally, fundamentalists take themselves and their beliefs too seriously to achieve the necessary distance or irony to be capable of writing a really belly-aching joke about much of anything.

So, Republicans should just give up the quest for a good comedian and accept themselves for the boring bullies they are. Actually, that would be a starting point for a Republican comedian -- writing jokes about what boring bullies Republicans are.
