Should the NSA stuffs result in empanneling a commission like Church or Pike?

This poll is all about SHOULD it happen.

The question is should a Commission be empaneled?

I have another poll asking the will question.

Who do you think Should head such a commission? (Not will, that's for the other thread.)

Please kick so we get a decent sample

Frank Church was an ethical, level-headed Democrat. This commission would more than likely be led by a headhunting, impeachment-crazed rethug.

But we're not likely to get the best choice here. If anything, expect the usual sound and fury, signifying nothing.

when it comes to the oath of office they have all sworn to.

That would exclude anyone who has supported Bush's policies re spying on the American people, defended them, continued to support them after Bush left.

Which leaves those who have continued to question the policies, Ron Wyden eg.

But in today's America, which has radically changed since Church's time, it is more likely we will get a Third Way 'dem' to try to appease the left and it will, some of them anyhow.

Unless the person leading it has proven themselves to place the American's rights above the rights of Corporations, as their oath of office requires, it will just be another 9/11 sham, with secret testimony and limited time for witnesses and people like Giuliani expounding on our 'security' etc. It could iow, do more harm than good as it could be used to 'lay to rest' the legitimate fears of the American people regarding domestic spying.

By tradition, neither in the House or Senate give me a warm fuzzy that they would like to find the truth and protect our rights. At this point, it's all show...sorry if I have become beyond cynical.

have been impeached. So what do I know?

How do you feel about the subject of whether it should happen?

I'd like to see Russ Feingold chair the commission. And maybe for bi-partisan flavor Chris Christie as co-chair (the only R I can even remotely stand right now, and even he's problematic).
