(84,711 posts)WHO ASK QUESTIONS and STILL VOTE...(although the "meme is" that WE don't Vote!)
It get's to that point with me reading stuff here these days. If I wanted to be a "Free Republican" (FREEPER) then...I could do no better than to see what "passes for Left" on this site these days.

(154,021 posts)Is based on a lack of historic understanding. This is an imperial presidency, has nothing to do with te occupant.
It started with Truman and it's high time we realize this. Empire is why we can't have nice things.

(5,937 posts)from that historical blindness we continue to miss so much that happens right under our nose and in front of our eyes, it has become traitorous anymore to point these things out. Indoctrination is complete.

(14,971 posts)My friend was there running social media. She said the mainstream press showed up because they wanted to catch some Progressive outrage so they could push their Obama = Bush meme. Most of the people there are activists and campaign workers who are strategizing on how to get more liberals/ Progressives elected from school boards on up. Howard Dean and DFA had seminars on his 50 state strategy for 2014. Most of the
attendees knew what CBS etc. were up to and weren't going to give them the satisfaction. This country has a lot of problems. Our party has a lot of problems. Handing this country over to the Republicans won't solve any of it. They addressed someofthe problems of our party through seminars and panels not outrage and press was extremely disappointed.

(131,773 posts)Time is better spent bolstering the state parties so we can take governorships and legislatures back, thus allowing progressives to finally deep-six the ALEC agenda.

(32,886 posts)When you go out and talk with fellow Democrats in different parts of the country, they don't sound like the folks here on DU who seem to spend most of their time outraged against the administration.

(14,971 posts)Progressives are working to get people elected. They're trying very hard to flip some of these states like Michigan and Wisconsin and take back the House (even though gerrymandering will make it difficult). This years conference was the largest ever and they trained a lot of new activists. Netroots 2014 will be held in Detroit next summer.
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)Progressives arent at war with the administration. Progressives are at war with issues, policies and laws that are killing the middle and working classes. If that reflects badly on the Admin, then so be it, but it isnt about Pres Obama.
Tell me if this isnt the way some are thinking. Pres Obama is honest and has a wonderful family. I doubt that any progressive would disagree. Therefore any questions or criticisms of any issues government related are direct affronts to Pres Obama's character. Wait, what? No progressive would buy that. No decent Democrat should buy that.

(55,981 posts)the administration. In fact seems to me that when people said that Michael Hasting's accident was suspicious, some started in their defense of the administration. Even to the point of being disrespectful of Mr. Hastings within hours of his death.
octoberlib
(14,971 posts)this conference. The progressive activist solution is to elect more progressives. Equating the leader of the Democratic party with Bush will not convince people to vote for us. They had no problem with heckling Pelosi but name-calling is counter-productive. Really, anybody who doesn't hold their government accountable is likely to end up with an authoritarian state. I don't like the surveillance state either or the TPP or chained CPI.

(13,305 posts)What we have now is a Democratic party that knows that we don't want to turn the country over to Republicans. So they settle and make us settle for "Not as bad as the other guys" which means basically the Democratic party of 2013 is the Republican party of 1992 on a lot of issues (primarily economics, healthcare, education, poverty, income inequality, etc).
So how do we not "hand the country over to Republicans" but also push the party leftward back to some sense of reasonable, progressive sanity. How do we get them to make the case for progressive values and policies, especially since when detailed poll after detailed poll shows that when asked the specific questions on policies (rather than simply a "are you liberal or conservative" that people support those policies.
Especially when so many people in the party continue to take a "SHHHHH!! Speak no ill of our leaders!!!!" approach. Look where that got Republicans. They kept living inside of a bubble and rather than making sure their party and leader (Bush) expressed popular opinions in an easily digestable way (not that they had any, but still), they took the approach of everyone covering their ears and going "LALALALALALALALI CAN"T HEAR YOU!!!!!" and simply shouting down any dissent.
That's what our party is doing now and it's going to ruin a golden opportunity of finally knocking out a horrible, out of touch, out of step, idiotic Republican party. But instead of doing what is needed and contrasting our great policies with theirs, we have a leader who is too concerned with bipartisanship above all else, including what is good policy.

(84,711 posts)Of course...I wouldn't.
but it would be silly to think that "paid folks" aren't out here on the Internets (lol's for GB)...given the new NSA Revelations. That would be quite naive.
Monkie
(1,301 posts)if anyone is getting paid it looks like they are paid to make obama look bad by making a complete mess of defending him.

(55,981 posts)principles and you use asinine emoticons.
If you are banking that Pres Obama is going to stop or even slow our dissent into fascism, you are in denial. The economic and intelligence agency leaders are the same as the previous administration. I wonder why? Maybe Pres Obama had no choice. Maybe it's bigger than himself. Clapper is a lying Republican that is supported by the corporatist apologists among us.
You and your friends use of silly emoticons is so very telling.
We are in a class war. Do you honestly think Pres Obama is on our side?

(27,670 posts)Centrists who believe that Obama is infallible, and that anything he does is more important and necessary than what is good for the country.
For instance, if Obama were to cut Social Security benefits for severely disabled retirees in half, Obama centrists would applaud this action as wise and necessary.
