The good news for Rick Santorum keeps on coming. Santorum now has surged to a modest two point lead over Mitt Romney in Pew Research national Republican primary polling. The poll was conducted from February 8-12 directly after Santorums three big wins last Tuesday. From Pew: http://www.people-press.org/2012/02/13/santorum-catches-romney-in-gop-race/?src=prc-headline

Santorum is beating Romney, because he is now doing much better among more conservative voting groups. Santorum has a double digit lead among Tea Party supporters (42% Santorum 23% Romney) and White Evangelicals (41% Santorum 23% Romney).
Besides showing him with the national lead, the polls other piece of relatively good news for Santorum is that Romney does only slightly better than Santorum in a theoretical general election match up with Obama. Romney performs only two points better in the general. From Pew:

(1,058 posts)The overwhelming choice for Republicans right now is "none of the above", and a brokered convention is really their only chance to put up someone else.

(27,832 posts)He's not Newt. He's not Willard. The evangelicals are probably voting for him because he's not Mormon. Ok, he is a catholic, but not a twice divorced, newt-come-lately catholic who either paid or influenced his way into the church, ala Newt.
Let's face it, nobody really likes either of the other two, nobody really believes Ron Paul is a republican, so who is left?
At least the debates will be fun to watch.

(2,892 posts)let him be the nominee, between the still partly sane that say they are repubs staying home and the rest of the country looking in horror at what he would bring we should crush them finally out of existence.

(21,925 posts)I'm expecting him to promote a reintroduction of the auto da fe and public execution of heretics and witches. Santorum's success is bad news because it forces Romney further to the right. It will make it impossible for Romney to go back to the middle if he captures the nomination.
